Edward Boldt, 85, of Battle Lake, died Monday, November 5, 2012 at the Battle Lake Good Samaritan Center.
Edward Herman William Boldt was born on August 6, 1927 in Hankinson, North Dakota the son of Harry and Amelia (Falk) Boldt. He was baptized and confirmed in the United Reform Church in Hankinson. Ed attended Rural School District in Belford Township by Mantador, North Dakota and continued his education with one year at the Hankinson High School. In 1950 he entered the U.S. Army, serving in the Korean War.
Edward and Mavis Westphal were married on November 26, 1952 in Hankinson, North Dakota. After their marriage they lived six years in Breckenridge, one year in Fargo then nine years in Moorhead. Ed had driven truck, farmed and worked in gas stations, managing a station for seven years then purchasing Ed's APCO owning this business for seven years. In 1973 he started with the Clay County Sherriff's Department retiring in 1991 as a Chief Security Officer. From 1968 to 1994 he lived on a hobby farm by Glyndon. On June 4, 1994 Edward and Joyce Borgos were married in the Sverdrup Lutheran Church in Underwood. They lived on South Turtle Lake by Underwood, wintering in Arizona, until entering the Lakeview Senior Living in Battle Lake. Ed was a lifetime member of the VFW, enjoyed gardening, Twins Baseball and square dancing.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce; two daughters, Susan (Robert) Herding of Hankinson, ND and Karen (Arnold) Dufault of Crookston; two sons, Craig (Nancy) Boldt of Moorhead and Steven (Michelle) Boldt of Fredriksburg, VA; seven grandchildren, Jeremiah (Cheryl Campbell) Herding, Jessica (Jeremy) Seelye, Jonathan (Moriah Skroch) Herding, Kim (Delray) Huot, Todd (Dorene) Dufault, Tony (Janna Carroll) Boldt and Nick Boldt; twelve great-grandchildren, Jacob and Jaidyn Seelye, Dylan and Cody Huot, Garrett, Danielle, Dana, Emily and Zach Dufault, Adam, Amanda and Emily Campbell; one sister, Elizabeth Brummond of Breckenridge; one sister-in-law Delores Westphal of Plymouth, MN.; and by Joyce's family, John (Linda) Borgos, Curt (Susie) Borgos, Alan (Patti) Borgos, Deb (Dale) Budke and Dennis Borgos; thirteen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and by numerous relatives and friends. Ed was preceded in death by his wife, Mavis on May 3, 1992.
Memorial Service: 11 am Friday, November 9, 2012 at Sverdrup Lutheran Church in Underwood
Visitation: 5-7 PM Thursday with a 7 pm Prayer Service at Glende-Nilson Funeral Home in Battle Lake and one hour prior to the service

Interment: 3 pm Friday at the Riverside Cemetery by Glyndon, Minnesota with Military Honors by Color Guard VFW Post 1223, Moorhead, Minnesota
