Jeffry Christenson

Dr. Jeffry (Jeff) Milton Christenson, II, of Fergus Falls, MN, went to be with the Lord Jesus Christ whom he loved and served, on Saturday, January 18, 2014. He died peacefully surrounded by his wife, children and beloved dachshund, Millie. Dr. Christenson was born at home in Doran, MN, on August 30, 1932, the son of Jeffry and Junith (Martinson) Christenson.
He graduated from Hillcrest Lutheran Academy in 1951 where he met his high school sweetheart, Bette Lloyd. They were married on September 27, 1952 and were blessed with 5 children who also graduated from Hillcrest Lutheran Academy. Jeff pursued his education at Augsburg College, Moorhead State College (B.A.); Drake University (M.A.); and the University of South Dakota (Ed.D). His professional career included teaching positions in Henning, MN, Buffalo, MN, Hillcrest Academy , West Des Moines, IA, Fergus Falls Community College and Moorhead State University; guidance counselor in Mahtomedi, MN, and psychologist at Lakeland Mental Health Clinic as well as private family practice in Fergus Falls and Detroit Lakes; and Director of Special Education in Warroad, MN. Throughout his life he took a personal interest in others particularly children and young people and had a heart to help those in need. He was a leader in church and outreach ministries, and was an avid student of God's Word. He enjoyed meeting with others who shared his passion for Jesus Christ and His Word.
He will be loved and missed by his wife Bette to whom he was married for 61 years; his children: Barbara (Mike) Ysteboe, San Antonio, TX; Linda (Mark) Skrien, Owatonna, MN; Jeffry (Amy) Christenson, III, Underwood, MN; Jon (Brenda) Christenson, Rochert, MN; and Pamela (Gerry) Makela, Raymond, MN; 12 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; his brothers and sisters: Joseph (Sally) Christenson, Fergus Falls, MN; (Sylvia) Christenson, Fergus Falls, MN; Sanford (Trina) Christenson, Fergus Falls, MN; Ruthie Vettrus, Faribault, MN; Paul (Mary) Christenson; Mary Jo (David) Tonneson, Fergus Falls, MN; Joel (Debbie) Christenson, Fergus Falls, MN; Jerry (Charlene) Christenson, Park Rapids, as well as nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jeffry and Junith Christenson, step-father Sigurd Christenson, sister Maxine Lee, brother David Christenson and great-grandson Reece Clapp.
There will be a visitation at Glende-Nilson Funeral Home on Friday, January 24, 2014 from 4-7 p.m. His life will be celebrated on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Bethel Lutheran Church with a luncheon to follow. Internment will take place at Stiklestad Lutheran Church in Doran, MN at a later date.
