Katherine Harms

Katherine Marie Harms, 82 a long-time resident of Battle Lake, MN. passed away at her home on Monday, July 3, 2017.
Katherine was born on November 3, 1934, in a small farm house west of Battle Lake, in Everts Township, to Joseph and Agnes (Nesdahl) Lill. Katherine attended school in Battle Lake and graduated from the Battle Lake High School in 1952, then continued her education at General Nurses School in Minneapolis.

On June 30, 1957, Katherine married Leland Harms at First Lutheran Church in Battle Lake. To this union five children were born. They lived in Detroit Lakes and Fergus Falls eventually settling on a farm west of Battle Lake. Katherine worked as a Registered Nurse on the Surgical and OB unit at Lake Region Hospital, then was nursing supervisor at the Fergus Falls Regional Treatment Center, then worked for Otter Tail County Public Health and retired from Otter Tail Nursing Home. After her retirement she worked part-time for Lakeland Hospice. After Leland's death, Katherine eventually became companions in life with Rudy Haukebo. She liked to read, enjoyed knitting, gardening, doing puzzles, playing Scrabble, farm life and collections of all kinds. Katherine loved spending time with her family especially her grandchildren and will lovingly be remembered for her kind and caring way.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Agnes Lill; husband, Leland Harms; son, Randy Harms; son-in-law, Brad Stofer; grandson, Caleb Harms; granddaughter, Kaitlyn Harms; brother-in-law, Jim Harms and companion, Rudy Haukebo.

Katherine is survived by her children, Jeff (Cindy) Harms and Daniel (Sheila) Harms both of Battle Lake, Linda Stofer of Denver, CO. and Sarah (Tim) Easter of Sioux Falls, SD; daughter-in-law, Cindy Ternes of Dilworth; eleven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and sisters-in-law, Sharon (Bob) Schmidt of East Grand Forks, MN and Kathy Harms of Detroit Lakes, MN; and by many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Service: 11:00 AM Friday, July 7, 2017, at First Lutheran Church in Battle Lake.
Visitation: Thursday from 4 to 7 PM, with a 6:30 PM Prayer Service at Glende-Nilson Funeral Home in Battle Lake and one hour prior to the service at the church.

Interment: Trinity Lutheran Cemetery by Battle Lake
