Russell Quernemoen, 92, of Fergus Falls, died Thursday, June 6, 2019, at PioneerCare in Fergus Falls.
Russell Melvin Quernemoen was born on June 5, 1927 in Fergus Falls, Minnesota the son of Melvin and Nannie (Danielson) Quernemoen. He was born and raised in Fergus Falls and graduated from the Fergus Falls High School in 1945. He then entered the U.S. Navy during World War II, serving on the USS Tripoli CVE #64 and aircraft charter escort on the Pacific Ocean. He has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Secondary Education from the Bob Jones University and attended two years of graduate school at UND in Grand Forks, ND.
Russell and Joyce Frantz were married on June 4, 1949 in the First Baptist Church in Fergus Falls. After their marriage they lived in Fergus Falls, six years in Greenville, SC, two years in Flint, Michigan, where Russ taught school, and finally returning to Fergus Falls where he did construction work. Russ began employment with the Minnesota Department of Employment and Training where he worked sixteen years in the Fergus Falls, Worthington, Moorhead, Detroit Lakes, New Ulm and St. Cloud before retiring in 1991 as a senior counselor. He helped many people find their purpose in life. Russ was a member of the Gideons, the American Legion and a lifetime member of the VFW. He enjoyed woodworking, metal working, mechanical drafting, rosemaling and calligraphy.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce of Fergus Falls; six children, Gary (Linda) Quernemoen of St. Cloud, Mary (Greg) Scott of Battle Lake, Jon (Joni) Quernemoen of Fergus Falls, Eric (Teresa) Quernemoen of Ottertail, Joy (Paul) Brown of Fergus Falls and Rene Quernemoen of Fergus Falls; 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; and a brother, LeRoy Quernemoen of Fergus Falls.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two grandsons, Jacob Scott and Timothy Scott; a brother and sister-in-law, Roger (Jean) Quernemoen of Tampa, FL; and a sister-in-law, MaryAnn Quernemoen.
Visitation: 5 – 7 PM Sunday, at Glende-Nilson Funeral Home, Fergus Falls, and one hour prior to services at the church.
Funeral Service: 11 AM Monday, June 10, 2019, at Abundant Life Assembly of God, Fergus Falls
