Alfred Anderson

Alfred V. "Bud" Anderson, 92, of Fergus Falls, died Monday, January 16, 2017, at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Fergus Falls, Minnesota.

Alfred Vernal (Bud) Anderson was born 2 miles north and ½ mile west of Kensington on August 12, 1924 to John Alfred and Valda (Nelson) Anderson. He was baptized in Wennersborg Church rural Kensington and was confirmed in First Lutheran Church. He attended School District 81.
Alfred served in the Pacific Theater of Operations during World War II in Guam and the Philippians, discharged December 7, 1945. After his discharge, he worked at the grain elevator and the creamery and did farming with his dad and brothers.

On December 6, 1953 he married Donna Peck at First Lutheran Church in Kensington. To this union, five children were born: Stanley, Linda, Tim, Susan and Julie. Donna passed away on March 28, 1973.

On December 26, 1974, Alfred married Amelia Weinrich Rowe and they resided in Fergus Falls until she passed away, May 24, 2009.

While he was in Fergus he worked for the city and on construction, did painting and other odd jobs. Alfred enjoyed reading the Bible and had deep faith in God. He enjoyed wood working, jigsaw puzzles and painting pictures. He was a member of Federated Church.

He is survived by five children, Stanley (Deb) Anderson of Fergus Falls, Linda (Jerry) Platow of Hastings, MN, Tim (Hanna) Anderson of Burnsville, MN, Susan (Kerry) Kirks of Mississippi, and Julie (Jesse) Swenson of Fergus Falls; 14 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren, and two on the way; four great-great-grandchildren; four step-children; a sister, Alice Quernemoen; and many nieces and nephews.

Alfred was preceded in death by his parents; spouses, Donna and Amelia; twin sister, Vernice Lilleboe; sister, Genevive Gardner; two brothers, Elmer and Alden Anderson; two granddaughters, Dana Platow, Alianna Baker; a grandson, Daniel Ahlbrecht; and a step-daughter.

Alfred will be greatly missed by all of his family, friends, and the many wonderful caregivers at the Fergus Falls Veterans Home.

Visitation: 5 – 7 PM Thursday, at Glende-Nilson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls, and one hour prior to services at the church

Funeral Services: 1:00 PM Friday, January 20, 2017 at The Federated Church in Fergus Falls
