Allen Boyum

Allen Edward Boyum, age 57, was born September 28th, 1957 in Fergus Falls, MN to Earl and Anita (Rydland) Boyum. He attended elementary school at District 1398 and graduated from Battle Lake High School in 1975. He continued his education at Alexandria Community and Technical College and upon graduation returned home to his family dairy farm. On October 17th, 1981 Al was united in marriage to Jean Findlay of Beardsley, MN. Together they raised three beautiful children- Aaron, Brett (Erica) and Kristin.
Al was a builder of life and a farmer at heart, an avid carpenter building the first home he and Jean lived in, and a devout community member- serving on the Battle Lake School Board, Battle Lake Booster Club, Eagle Lake Church Council, Ashby Elevator Board and various dairy industry boards and was active in 4-H and FFA. Al was always known for his love of sports, spending endless hours coaching and attending his children's sporting events, officiating high school basketball for 16 years, helping to raise funding for an all-weather track at the Battle Lake high school, supporting the elementary basketball program and following the Minnesota Twins and Gophers.
Al was a loving father and husband, married to Jean for 33 years. One of his favorite past times was spending Sunday afternoons at the lake where he taught his children how to water-ski and fish. He also enjoyed traveling with Jean-often times to visit relatives, spending time with his siblings, friends and enjoying the beautiful farm life he shared with his family.
Al entered heavens kingdom peacefully at home on the farm on Tuesday, May 12th, 2015 after a courageous 16 month battle with multiple myeloma cancer. Al is survived by his wife Jean, three children- Aaron, Brett and his wife Erica, and daughter Kristin; mother Anita Boyum, siblings- Sonja & Bill Meiers, Les & Sheri Boyum, Avis & Jeff Ek, Beth & Tim Schendel; Father and Mother in-law Lawrence & Hazel Findlay, brother in-laws Mark & Carol Findlay and Dale Findlay; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his father Earl Boyum, mother in-law Eleanor Findlay, brother in-law Glenn Findlay, and grandparents Alma & John Rydland and Henry & Elline Boyum.
