Alphild (Wahlstrom) Loken was born February 20, 1918, on the family farm in Clitherall Township south of Battle Lake to Olga (Lundeen) and Alfred Wahlstrom. She was baptized March 24, 1918, and confirmed October 30, 1932, at Eagle Lake Lutheran Church.
She spoke only Swedish growing up and learned English from her sister Florence before attending school at District 34. She graduated from Battle Lake High School where she played piano for all the musical groups and sang with the girls' sextet. While in high school, she was also the organist, choir director, and Sunday School teacher at Eagle Lake Lutheran Church for several years.

On April 3, 1937, she married Victor Loken at the Eagle Lake Lutheran Church. They made their home in the area, living on several different farms, finally in 1966, settling on a farm eight miles south of Battle Lake where they built their home.

In 1968, Alphild was employed as a deputy treasurer for Otter Tail County where she worked for more than 26 years.

Alphild lived her faith in God and dedicated her life to serving others, especially her family.

She always had coffee and homemade treats for anyone who stopped by. Her children and grandchildren were especially fond of her apple pies, applesauce cake, and lefse.

Alphild enjoyed playing the piano, sewing, doing word search puzzles, playing Scrabble, gardening, canning, and raising roses and irises. She loved spending time with her family and especially enjoyed visits from her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In 2011, she moved to Good Samaritan in Battle Lake. The family wishes to extend gratitude and appreciation to the Good Samaritan staff for the loving care they gave to our mother over the past years.
