Alvin (Al) Rotering, 86, of Fergus Falls died Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at the Minnesota Veteran’s Home.
He was born August 18, 1931 in Dickinson, ND to Otto and Brigitta (Edith) Strauss Rotering. His twin brother, Arnold, was born 12 hours later. Al married Louise (Liz) Oldenburg in New England, ND on November 22, 1958. Liz passed away on March 29, 2008.
Al was active in 4-H as well as track and basketball at St. Mary’s High School in New England. He joined the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and was an electrical engineer. After he was honorably discharged, Al returned to western North Dakota where he was a farmer, rancher and electrician near Amidon. He was very active in the American Legion, 40+8, and enjoyed bowling and golfing. He retired from farming in 2006 and moved to the Minnesota Veteran’s Home in Fergus Falls in 2014.
Alvin is survived by his only sibling, Arnold Rotering and Arnold’s wife, Vivian and their four children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren as well as a nephew and niece to his late wife, Liz. Al and Liz did not have any children.
No services are planned at this time.
Burial will be in the North Dakota Veteran’s Cemetery in Mandan, ND.
