Arleigh Brown, Jr., 72, of Ashby, died Saturday, December 10, 2016 at Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls.
He was born January 8, 1944 in Rock Rapids, IA to Arleigh and Jacoba (Van Holland) Brown. He grew up on a farm south of Rock Rapids where he attended country school. In 1955, he moved with his family to a farm outside of Sioux Falls, SD where he attended country school and Harrisburg High School. He attended church at First Reformed Church in Sioux Falls. On October 16, 1964, he was united in marriage to Mary Hammer. To this union, two children were born, Randall and Laura. The family made their home in Sioux Falls until 1974 when they moved to Fargo, ND. Arleigh was employed with Jordan Millwork and then began his career in commercial trucking with Valley Express and Jacobson Transport up until August of 2016.
Arleigh was united in marriage to Patricia Olson on September 22, 1997. The couple made their home in Ashby.
Arleigh enjoyed listening to country music, following the MN Twins and Vikings and NDSUBison football and making bean bag toss games. He also loved playing bean bags, woodworking and playing horseshoes. He loved his dogs, Shebaa and Tosha and loved being on the open road while he was driving truck.
Arleigh is survived by his wife, Pat Brown of Ashby; his daughter, Laura (Wade) Peterson of Morrhead; Pat's children, Teresa (Troy) Langlie of Ashby, Jayme (Randi) Olson of Alexandria and Kelly (Andrea) Olson of Blaine; eleven grandchildren: Nicholas, Tyson, Tanner, Jaylen, Kelby, Kaeley, Torrey, Treyton, Jillian, Reese and Lena; one great-grandchild, Calum Terrence Langlie; three sisters: Joanne Hoekman of Rutland, SD, Betty Husman of Baltic, SD, and Mary (Mike) Wheeler of Coal Valley, IL; one brother, Earl (Jackie) Brown of Sioux Falls, SD and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Randall, two brothers-in-law: Marv Hoekman and Denny Husman and two nephews: Bob Wheeler and Jimmy Husman.
