Beatrice Richardson

November 9, 1922 — January 23, 2014

Beatrice Richardson, 90, of Fergus Falls died on Thursday January 23, 2014 at the Broen Home, Fergus Falls, Minnesota.

On January 23, 2014 our beloved angel Bea Richardson was called home to rest peacefully in the arms of her creator and fear no more. Although our hearts are broken, we are at peace with the knowledge that she too is at peace and happily surrounded by other loved ones that have gone before her. Her family and friends that were such a huge part of her life mourn her passing, but cherish the memories and time shared with her.

Bea was born to Alfred and Della Dobson on November 9, 1922 in Wadena, Minnesota. She loved life on the farm with her six siblings; Donald, Roger, twins Merlin and Vernon, Esther and Forest (Forrie). She talked fondly of a wonderful childhood where she enjoyed gardening, canning, and baking, cooking, sewing, hunting, fishing, ice skating and 4H projects. She proudly remarked that she won 1st place for making a dress out of old flour sacks.

Bea graduated from Sebeka High School in 1941 and shortly thereafter moved to Seattle seeking employment during the war. Her first job was as a welder at Todds Shipyard. Following the war, she attended Renton Beauty School and bought a small beauty salon on Capitol Hill in Seattle. There she worked until the early fifties. In May of 1950 she married Harold Robinson and they raised two children together. In the early 60's her love for people and jewelry led her to start work for Rainier Jewelers in Seattle. It was there that she met her two best friends; they were the original "Golden Girls", loving their work and each other. She worked there until her divorce in 1974. She then moved back to Minnesota to help her mom, Della Plowman, run Maple Leaf Resort. She found her way back to another jewelry store, Mauk Jewelers, where she worked for 25+ years and acquired her Minnesota family. Her Mauk Jewelry co-workers had this to say about her;

"Where do we begin to eulogize our dear friend Bea Richardson? She was a dedicated employee, friend and our Minnesota Mom. Bea was dearly loved by all of her many co-workers through the years and equally so by customers. We were truly a family… through the many events, and monumental milestones she was always there for us with her love, support, and encouragement. It made others want to be around her. We cannot forget the contributions of her infamous "eats and treats" and most infectious laugh! Bea was always dressed to the 9's – she was a class act. Bea taught us all how to dress with a flash of embellishments, bling, and a smile on our faces! Bea believed all walks of life should be treated equally… she taught us to "treat people like we would want to be treated." She loved to work at Mauk Jewelers so much, she retired 3 times! Every time she showed her face however, she was welcomed back with open arms! We love and miss our little "Beasquee" hugely!

Bea loved life and lived it to the fullest and always with that beautiful smile of hers! She loved visiting her family in Seattle where they enjoyed spoiling her. On her last visit she was able to celebrate her 90th birthday with love and laughter, surrounded by her family. That final visit fills us with precious memories that we are thankful for and will be treasured forever. She was known as "the party girl" and loved entertaining her friends and family with a beautifully set table and an amazing meal she had lovingly prepared. She was "Martha Stewart" before her day and in her spare time loved to garden, sew, cook, arrange flowers, decorate her home, bake, do needlepoint and tackle and craft project that you could imagine.

Bea leaves behind a daughter, Jan and son-in-law (Michael), six grandchildren; Stacey (Matt), Jeffery (Diane), Jason, Janelle (Sean), Brent, and Mariah that all cherished and adored their "Grandma Sota." She was also blessed with a great-grandson, Giovanni whom she was crazy about. She watched from heaven, with a smile, as her 2nd great-grandson, Declan, was born the day after her passing.

A celebration of her life was held with her family and friends, Saturday, March 1, 2014 at Advent Lutheran Church in Everett, Washington. Because of her love of the beach, her ashes will be set free at Hugs Point, Oregon, on the Pacific Ocean.

Her loving heart, positive energy, beautiful smile, and that irresistible laugh will be forever missed and cherished always.
