Bernice Starin, 85, of Fergus Falls died Friday, March 18, 2016, at the Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls.

Bernice Oline (Ness) Starin was born on April 3, 1930, near Battle Lake, Minnesota - the daughter of Alvin and Ella (Schott) Ness, who taught her strong family values including honesty, courage and love. She was baptized and confirmed in the Trefoldighed Lutheran Church, attended Country School in Clitherall Township and graduated from the Battle Lake High School in 1948.

Bernice married Virgil Starin September 17, 1949, in Dalton, Minnesota. After their marriage they lived most of their lives in the Fergus Falls area. In 1952 they moved to Waconia until 1956, when they moved to Lewiston, Idaho and in 1957, they returned to Minnesota. Bernice was a homemaker, cosmetic salesperson, housekeeper, supervisor with Thom's Linen Service and then was employed with the Otter Tail Nursing Home where she was a 24 Karat Customer Service Spokesperson for two years. She enjoyed fishing, scrapbooking, surfing and e-mailing family and friends on line, traveling, following the Minnesota Vikings and Twins and playing with the family dogs. One of her most enjoyable activities involved sitting on the shore of a beautiful, quiet Minnesota lake and watching the sun set. Bernice loved family and encouraged them to give lots of hugs, stay together and support each other through "Good Times and Bad!" and keep in touch. She had been a Boy Scouts den mother, pitcher for a local women's softball team and enjoyed picnics and holidays spent with her family. Bernice had been a member of Trefoldighed Lutheran Church by Battle Lake, Moravian Church of Waconia, First Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls, Zion Lutheran of Amor where she was involved with AAL as Vice-President, and then joined Hope Lutheran in Fergus Falls.

She is survived by her five children, Jan (Ted) Dahl of Royalton, Carol Fiske of Loveland, CO., Max Starin of Rothsay, Donna (Tim) Richmond of Picayune, MS. and Paul Starin of Dalton; daughter-in-law, Lynette Starin of Erhard; nine grandchildren, Mike Neumann, Casey Fiske, Scott (Shana) Starin, Jeremy (Melanie) Starin, Jessica (Steve) Dawson, Melissa (Jason) Richmond-King, Jason Richmond, Alicia Boettger and Julie (Jacob) Day; nine great-grandchildren, Cassandra and Grace Dente, Kallie, Connor, and Gavin Starin, Shjon Rogers, Bodhi King, Paige Messerschmidt and Syriana Scott; brother, Bernell (Anne) Ness of Pillager; sisters-in-law, Betty Ness of Ashby, Betty Collins (Ralph-deceased) of Tennessee, Colleen Garberg (Bud) of Montana and Louise Starin (Allen) of Washington; and by numerous relatives and friends.
