Betty Highdale

Betty Highdale, 87 of Battle Lake died Saturday, September 15, 2012 at the Battle Lake Good Samaritan Center.

Betty Lou Highdale was born on December 17, 1924 in Fergus Falls, Minnesota the daughter of John and Elna (Dalluge) Sorenson. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith and attended school in Fergus Falls then Rural Country School in Clitherall Township through the eighth grade.

Betty and Selmer Highdale were married on January 20, 1946 in Underwood, Minnesota. They together farmed, Betty had been employed with the Farmers State Bank, the Underwood Hardware both of Underwood then with the Medallion Kitchens of Fergus Falls. After Sam and Betty retired in 1970, they moved into and worked as caretakers for five years at the Summit Village Apartments in Battle Lake. They moved to Underwood living in the Tamarac Manor for two years, then returned to Summit Village. Sam passed away on December 15, 1988 Betty entered the Battle Lake Care Center in December of 2008. She really enjoyed her life at the Good Samaritan and appreciated the wonderful care she received. At the home she enjoyed getting ready for bingo, coffee times and going to the church service on Sundays. Betty kept Kit Kat candy bars which she would give to the staff and friends. She loved the outdoors, loved to clean and was a very immaculate person who liked to help people.

She is survived by one son, Larry (Detsy) Highdale of Kensington; three grandchildren, Tom Highdale of Kensington, Pam (Michael) Ellefson of Osakis and Jim Highdale of Alexandria; seven great-grandchildren, Brittany, Tiffany, Brandon, Zachary, Cameron, Scott and Jeffrey; and by numerous relatives and friends. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, John and Elna Sorenson; her husband, Sam; one great-grandson, John Jr.; five sisters and two brothers.

Funeral Service: 2 pm, Wednesday at the Battle Lake Good Samaritan Center.

Visitation: one hour prior to the service.

Clergy: Rev. Jake Dyrhaug

Interment: First Lutheran Cemetery, Battle Lake

Funeral Home: Glende-Nilson of Battle Lake.
