Carl Biederman, 78 of Battle Lake died Saturday, July 7, 2012 at the Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls, Minnesota.
Carl Spencer Biederman was born on August 5, 1933 in Rolfe, Iowa the son of Joseph and Buelah (Spencer) Biederman. He was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic Faith. Carl attended school in Rolfe, Iowa, then Gilby, North Dakota before moving to Battle Lake where he attended the Battle Lake Public School. On June 22, 1950 Carl joined the U.S. Navy where he served on twenty-two different ships, sailing all over the world as a Boiler Repair/Operator/Engineer, serving in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was honorably discharged on July 22, 1973 after twenty-three years of service.
Carl and Elaine Sandahl were married on July 18, 1954 in Battle Lake, Minnesota. After their marriage they lived in various places throughout the United States. After Carl's Navy retirement he was employed with the Stillwater State Prison for one year. The family stayed in Battle Lake, Minnesota while Carl commuted back on weekends during this time. They then moved to Virginia, Minnesota where he worked for the City of Virginia Power Plant for eight years before retiring to Battle Lake. Carl enjoyed fishing, bow hunting, collecting coins but mainly enjoyed times with his family and especially his grandchildren. He was a member of the Battle Lake Alliance Church, the Ashby American Legion and the Fergus Falls VFW.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine; six children, Beth (Rick) Kodadek of Vining, Wanda (Rick) Kohlhase of Fergus Falls, Kevin Biederman of St. Cloud, Neal Biederman and Todd (Brenda) Biederman both of Battle Lake and Karl (Michele) Biederman of Perham; twenty-two grandchildren and families, Gene (Jess) and Maiya, Carl (Dana)and Conner, Kelton and Bryson, Mary (Luke) and Rick and Seth, Ricky, Amy (Ron) and Vivian, Samuel and Theodor, Matt, Lisa (Nate) and Jozie, Jerel, Jessi, Derek, Rashanna and Malachi, Aiden and Mason, Neal, Mike, Chris, Cassie, TJ, Tommy, Ashley, Eleanor, Anton, Justin and Violet; one sister, Betty (Orrin) Christianson of Clitherall and by numerous, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Buelah Biederman, and by two brothers, Robert and Edward Biederman.
Funeral Service: 11 am Wednesday, July 11, 2012 at the Battle Lake Alliance Church
Visitation: Tuesday from 5 to 7 pm with a Prayer Service at 6:30 pm at the church
