Catherine R. Richards, 81, of Fergus Falls, MN, died on Wednesday, February 3, 2016, at the Broen home in Fergus Falls.
Catherine Rose was born on November 30, 1934, in Jamestown, ND, the daughter of John and Mary (Sabinash) Siebert. Catherine's mother, Mary, passed away in 1935, and she and her four siblings were split up and raised by family members. Cathy was raised by her Aunt Neva and Uncle Alex Mrozek. Cathy was baptized and confirmed at St. Johns' Academy in Jamestown and later graduated from there in 1951. After school, Catherine started work at Ottertail Power Company in Jamestown, where she met the love of her life, Charles Richards.
On May 25, 1954, she married Charles Thomas Richards at St. John's Catholic Church in Jamestown. The couple moved from Jamestown to Devils Lake, back to Jamestown and eventually to Fergus Falls in 1967, due to Charles relocating with Ottertail Power Company. The couple were the proud parents of six children. Catherine worked for the Regional Treatment Center and Dr. Roy Nelson until 1974. Catherine owned and operated City Cab and The Answering Service in Fergus Falls where she was the familiar voice to many businesses in the area. Cathy was known as ma to many in the community and would open her house up to anyone. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary in Fergus Falls.
Her hobbies included camping at Heidelberg Lake, bowling with her husband, Charles, and watching any sporting event. Cathy was known to be able to crochet anything she could think up and had a soft heart for animals. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents, John and Mary; loving husband, Charles Richards in 1984; special friend, Lynn Eisinger; brothers, Gerald Siebert and Robert Siebert; an aunt, Neva and Uncle Alex Mrozek and a sister-in-law, Leona (Walter) Fehr.
She is survived by her six children, Thomas (Belinda) Richards of FL, Curtis (Sandy) Richards of MO, James (Bonny) Richards, Steven (Joell) Richards, Jon Richards and Sandra Richards of MN; sisters, Dorothy and Betty of WA, grandchildren, Jennifer (Chuck), Shannon (James), Charlie (Dawn) of FL, David (Boupha), Nathan (Celeste), Justin (Jamie), Brianna, Amanda, Brandon (Clare) and Kaylee of MN; great grandchildren, Stephanie, Heather, Dominique, Hunter, Tristen of FL, Winry, Desmond, Corbin, Autumn, Trevor and Sofia along with numerous family and friends.
Memorial Service: 1:00 P.M., Saturday, February 6, 2016, at St. James Episcopal Church in Fergus Falls, with a memorial gathering one hour prior to the service at the church.
