Charlene Ortloff, 68 of rural Clitherall died Thursday, February 2, 2012 at the Golden Living Center in Henning, Minnesota.
Charlene Bernice Ortloff was born on May 31, 1943 by Winthrop, Minnesota the daughter of Harold and Bernice (Quast) Rose. She was baptized on May 31, 1943 and was confirmed on April 14, 1957 at the St. John's Lutheran Church of rural Winthrop. Charlene attended Winthrop Public School graduating from the Winthrop High School in 1961.
Charlene and Douglas Ortloff were married on October 20, 1962 in the St. John's Lutheran Church. After their marriage they lived in Hutchinson where they moved into their new home in September of 1963. She was employed with 3M for thirty four years, retiring in 2001 when they moved to their home on East Battle Lake, rural Clitherall. While in Hutchinson they were members of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, then transferred to the First Lutheran Church in Battle Lake. Charlene enjoyed gardening, canning and playing bingo. She also liked fishing and camping, the family saw a lot of Minnesota resorts and Charlene loved to travel, she and Doug enjoyed going south in the winter.
Charlene liked spending time with friends and the number one thing was family, time at their lake home and especially with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Doug; one son, Dean Ortloff and one daughter, Sandra Vanschaick both of Clitherall; grandchildren, Amber (Dusty) Jarman, Carter, Liam, Cole, Riley and Jayda of Cokato, Dustin Vanschaick of Champlin, Karley Ortloff of Waconia and Mason Starling of Blaine; one brother, Roger (Marian) Rose of Winthrop; and by numerous friends and relatives. Charlene was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Bernice Rose and by one granddaughter, Dawn Vanschaick.
Funeral Service: 11 am Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at the First Lutheran Church in Battle Lake
Visitation: Monday from 4 to 7 pm with a Prayer Service at 7 pm at the Glende-Nilson Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church.
