Charles "Charlie" Brust, 82 of Lake Clitherall died Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at the Pioneer Care.
Charles Rasmus Brust was born on March 8, 1931 in New Ulm, Minnesota the son of Richard and Hertha (Anderson) Brust. He was baptized and confirmed in the Episcopal Church in New Ulm. Charlie graduated from the New Ulm High School in 1949, he then continued his education at Gustavus Adolphus College where he played football, and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology. He then served with the U.S. Army stationed two years in Germany.
Charles and Constance Muesing were married on December 28, 1952 in the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm. After their marriage Charlie was in the Army and Connie was attending the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, and in 1955 he started teaching Biology in the Montevideo High School where the Brust's were very active with the school pep club. He coached for a short time and then did a lot of refereeing in all sports. He was very musical, playing various instruments by ear with different old time bands. Along with music he also enjoyed hunting, their lake home and fishing. In 1993 they moved to their Clitherall Lake home. Charlie and Connie attended all events such as music, school plays and all sports and were known for their morning walks in the Battle Lake School. He was a wonderful cribbage player, and in school was the champion pit player with his colleagues.
He is survived by his wife of sixty-one years, Connie; three children, Charles Richard Brust of Arlington, Texas, Eric (Cheryl) Brust, Tucker, Mika and Zane of Dexter, Michigan and Amy Louise (Mohammad) Hassanzadeh, Erin Grace and Emily Louise of Bloomington, Mn.; one sister-in-law, Margaret Brust; and by numerous relatives and friends and by their black lab, Gracie. Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Hertha Brust and by one brother, Howard Brust.
