Charles Malmstrom, 83, of
Charles Malmstrom was born on September 10, 1926 in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, the son of Charles W. Malmstrom and Lillian (Jacobsen) Malmstrom. He granduated from the Fergus Falls High School in 1944. Charles served with the U.S. Army at the end of World War II, landing with the first ship of the Occupation Forces in Japan where he served as a Quarter Master. Charles returned to Fergus Falls, first working with O'Mearas until 1952, and then with the Fergus Falls Journal in Advertising for thirty-six years until his retirement in 1988.
Charles married Jeannine E. Madsen on October 10, 1953 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Battle Lake, Minnesota. Charles and Jeannine raised five children, living first in Fergus Falls for five years, and then moving to Battle Lake, and later to Lake Blanche in 1970, where Charles and Jeannine owned and operated Madsen's Resort.
Charles enjoyed spending time with his family and loved hunting with his sons, fishing, gardening, reading, stamp collecting and bird watching. Charles was also active in the community. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church, serving on the Church Board for two terms, he was a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge (Corner Stone Lodge Fergus Falls), a long time member of the Shriners (Birak Shrine Club Fergus Falls, the Zurah Temple and the El Zagle Temple), he served for several years on the Otter Tail County Shoreland Management Board, he served on the Glendalough Park advisory board for several years, he was a director and president of the Otter Tail Empire Resort Association, and help

develop and served as a director of the Otter Tail Country Association
Charles is survived by his wife Jeannine of Battle Lake;
his daughters Linda (Frode) Grefsgard of Hebekk, Norway and Andrea (John) Everts of Battle Lake;
his sons Carl Malmstrom of Detroit Lakes, Eric (Tami) Malmstrom of Battle Lake, and David (Shawn) Malmstrom of St. Louis Park; and by seven grandchildren: Anne Jean Grefsgard and Steffan Grefsgard, Norway; Rezin, Ambrose and Julia Everts, Battle Lake; and Justin DeHarty and Kyle Owings, Battle Lake.
Charles is also survived by his sister Lily Mae Rakstad, Glenwood, and by his brother Carol W. (Laurel) Malmstrom, Henning and his

ephews.
In leau of flowers, memorials may be given to Battle Lake Rescue Squad, The Children's Hospital, Glendalough Park Partners.
