Charles Torgerson

Charles Ellsworth Torgerson was born on November 7, 1926 in Grand Forks, North Dakota to parents Charles Clifford and Anne (Loyland) Torgerson. Charles grew up on the farm and attended country school near Grand Forks. He served in the United States Army from 1950 to 1952 and upon his return from the service he resided in Grand Forks.

Charles married Evelyn Aaskland and to this union three children were born; Deborah, Janet and Charles. With this union were also two step-children; Barbara and Sharon. Charles later married Ann Tenneson and to this union were two step-children, Doreen and Paul. In 1988 Charles was united in marriage to Helen Minchinton and the family grew by five step-children, Ruth, Paul, Mary, Lois and Joel.

Charles worked for the North Dakota State Highway Department for over 30 years. He enjoyed working with mechanics and woodworking, but even more he was always there to lend a helping hand and known for having a servant’s heart. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Black Canyon City, AZ and a member at Bethel Lutheran Church in Grand Forks. After Charles moved to Fergus Falls in 1997 he became a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls.

On Thursday, March 11, 2010 Charles Torgerson passed away at the Broen Memorial Home in Fergus Falls, MN.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Torgerson of Fergus Falls; his three children Deborah (Derry) Meester of Reynolds, ND, Janet (John) Ouradnik of Grafton, ND, and Charles (Joan) Torgerson of Grand Forks, ND; nine step children, Barbara (Roger) Cummings, Sharon Curran, Doreen (John) Hartz, Paul Tenneson, Ruth (Roy) Egstad, Paul (Teddie) Minchinton, Mary (Frank) Hutton, Lois (Loran) Rogness, and Joel (Theresa) Minchinton; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; nine brothers and sisters, Arlen Torgerson, Robert (Jane) Torgerson, Ramon (Teddy) Torgerson, Ronald (Fern) Torgerson, Donna (Manny) Macias, Donald (Marilyn) Torgerson, Dale Torgerson, Darryl (Sarah) Torgerson, and Judi Chain.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Anne Torgerson; spouses Evelyn and Ann; brothers Truman and Richard; and one sister, Gloria Cape.
