Cheryl Petersen, 53 of rural Battle Lake died Saturday, October 6, 2012 at the Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls.
Cheryl Kay Petersen was born on October 31, 1958 in Fergus Falls, Minnesota the daughter of Eldred and Betty (Anderson) Ness. She was baptized in the Clitherall Presbyterian Church on April 19, 1959 and confirmed in the First Presbyterian Church in Ashby. Cheryl graduated from the Ashby High School in 1976 then continued her education for one year at the Alexandria Technical College.
Cheryl and John Petersen were married on August 12, 1995 in the First Presbyterian Church in Ashby by Rev. Lewis Koerselman. They lived in their home at rural Battle Lake on the north side of Eagle Lake. Cheryl was employed thirty-four years with the Otter Tail County Sherriff Department, first in the office then as a Dispatcher. She enjoyed pool league, deer hunting, photography, shopping, watching NASCAR and spending time with family and friends.
Cheryl has always held a special place in her heart for her nieces and nephews. She enjoyed spending time with them, as well as attending their various school activities and sporting events. Cheryl will always be remembered, loved, and greatly missed by her many nieces and nephews.
She is survived by her husband, John; two sons, Robert (Melinda) Petersen of St. Paul and Timothy (Brandi) Petersen of Boiling Springs, SC; five grandchildren, Ayden, Dylan, Anahi, Yasmin and Victoria; parents, Eldred and Betty Ness of Ashby; mother-in-law, Maggie Petersen of Fergus Falls; brothers and sisters, Bruce Ness of Dalton, Sue (Michael) Merten of Alexandria, Judy (Michael) Grecco, Larry (Konie) Ness and Daniel (Andrea) Ness all of Ashby; brother-in-law, Steve Lepisto of Virginia, Mn; and by numerous relatives and friends. Cheryl was preceded in death by one sister, Marcia Lepisto and one nephew, Jacob Ness.
Funeral Service: 11 am Friday, October 12, 2012 at the First Presbyterian Church in Ashby.
Visitation: Thursday from 4 pm to 7 pm with a Prayer Service at 7 pm at the First Presbyterian Church and will resume one hour prior to the service.
