Clifford West, 96 of Clitherall died Saturday, July 9, 2011 at the Battle Lake Good Samaritan Center one week before his 97th birthday.
Clifford Milton West was born on July 21, 1914 in Orangeberg, Missouri the son of Frank and Annabelle (Clifton) West. He moved with his family to Minnesota where he attended the Nashua Grade School then the Campbell High School through the tenth grade.
On September 22, 1934 Cliff married Jesse Heifner in Breckenridge, Minnesota. They farmed by Nashua and he was employed with the Campbell Lumber yard, then farmed by Fairmont, then by Tintah doing grain farming and Milking cows. He also helped build roads with his own team of horses. Cliff was very active in the E.U.B. Church, where he served on various offices. In 1960 they moved to Clitherall where he farmed and was a carpenter, building houses, barns, cabins along with any type of carpentry work and was always available for big or small jobs. Clifford was a hard working man and a friend to all. In 2001, his wife of sixty-seven years died and on April 22, 2007 he married Evelyn Leth. They continued to live in Clitherall where they enjoyed four years together. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Battle Lake and had served as Clitherall Mayor for thirty-four years.
He is survived by his wife, Evie Leth West of Springfield, Missouri; six children, Garth (Connie) West of Garden City, MN., Rosemary (Myron) Janke of Wheaton, MN., Judy Stumpf Bolin of Alexandria, MN., Jean (Merle) Rubish of Wahpeton, N.D., Pat (Robert) Aguilar of Minnepolis, MN, and Michael West and friend Sue of Clitherall, MN; fourteen grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; and by everyone who called him friend. Cliff was preceded in death by his wife, Jesse on May 8, 2001; daughter-in-law, Marlene Aune West; two sons-in-law, Larry Stumpf and Joe Bolin; six brothers, Melvin, Marvin, Oscar, Roy, Herb and Kenneth West and by one sister, Alva Maahs Andrews.
Memorial Service: 11 am Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at the Glende-Nilson Funeral Home in Battle Lake
Visitation: one hour prior to the service.
