It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Daniel Allen Naumann, age 84. He passed away quickly and unexpectedly at Essentia Health in Fargo, surrounded by family as he went home to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, in peace.
Dan was born in Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, the third of eleven children born to Pearl Priscilla and Justus Carl Naumann. The family lived on a small farm in Dent until Dan was nine. He attended a small country school that was an actual two and a half mile walk each way. According to his mom’s writings, he missed quite a bit of school to help plant and tend the crops. The family then moved to a dairy farm in Sauk Centre, Minnesota, and at age fifteen, they relocated to St. Paul.
From his early years of planting crops and plowing fields to managing several paper routes and serving in the Air National Guard, Dan’s life was marked by hard work and dedication. He served in the Air Force during the Berlin crisis, traveling to 19 different countries. His love for flying continued with the Civil Air Patrol.
Dan met and married Mary (Borgschatz) (Naumann) Duquet, and after a honeymoon trip back to Dent to visit his grandparents, they were drawn back to the area. They bought a farm in Battle Lake, where they raised their four children.
At the heart of it, Dan was a farmer, salesman, and jack-of-all-trades handyman. He was known for his love of meeting people and sharing his philosophies on pretty much everything.
Dan had a servant's heart and a deep desire to help wherever he could. He loved music and would often be seen tearing up while listening to beautiful Christian songs or when listening to his children making music. He cherished his family and was immensely proud of them. His love for farming and his curiosity about people were central to his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Pearl and Justus Naumann, and siblings Dave, Chuck, Morris, and infant twin sisters Cheryl and Lynn.
Dan is survived by his siblings Marie (Rich) Schreiber, Judy LaFleur, Paul Naumann, Nancy (Tom) Benser, and Bruce Naumann; his four children Andrea (AJ) Fowler, Sara (Pat) Kalk, Nicole (Ken) Muelling, and Michael (Angela Blood) Naumann; 11 grandchildren Katie Fowler, Hannah (Dakota) Meyer, Corina Strider, Kelly Fowler, Joshua (Nicole) True, Kayla (Kyle) Olson, Jessica (Jesse) Hafterson, Spencer Wentworth, Sterling Wentworth, Hannah (Erik) Kalk, and Hailey Naumann; and 20 great-grandchildren Ryker, Alara, Izayaha, Sophia, Braiden, Paisley, Joshua, Vidalia, Ellie, Brayden, Braxten, Brielle, Hazel, Jade, Hunter, Kahlia, Aubrey, Emery, Autumn, and LeVelle, along with numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
His funeral service, beginning with visitation, will be at 3 PM on Sunday, August 18, 2024 (his 1st heavenly birthday) at Bethel Lutheran Church – Battle Lake Campus, with a reception and celebration of his life to follow at Shoreline Restaurant. He will be buried at the St. John’s Lutheran Church Cemetery in Dent, where he was baptized and attended church as a young boy.
