David Lovgren, 65, of Battle Lake, MN died Saturday, January 14, 2012 at Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls, MN, after a short but hard fought and courageous battle with cancer.
David John Lovgren was born on September 7, 1946 in Bismarck, ND the son of John and Betty (Reynolds) Lovgren. He was baptized in the Methodist Church, confirmed in the Episcopalian Church and then later converted to Lutheran. Dave attended Bismarck Public Schools graduating from Bismarck High School in 1964. He continued his education at Bismarck State College and Moorhead State University. Dave entered the North Dakota National Guard, training in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri in 1963.
Dave and Joyce Officer were married on February 14, 1996 in Fargo, ND. They lived in Fargo ND until moving to their home in Battle Lake MN in 1999. Dave worked for UPS, Gates Rubber Co. and Steiger Tractor. He spent most of his life trucking, which was his passion. At the age of fifteen he started working with his dad and for fifty years worked in some manner around the trucking business. For the last sixteen years Dave and Joyce were self-employed drivers with Magnum, High Standard Transport and Midnight Express, which they were with until retiring for health reasons in the spring of 2011. Dave received several safe driving awards, driving over 6 million miles safely. He was a member of the Elks Club and OOIDA (Owner Operator Independent Drivers Association). Dave enjoyed reading, history and was a people's person who enjoyed good conversation.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce; one daughter, Paula Lovgren of Moorhead MN; one step-son, Dr. Todd (Dr. RaNae Doll) Officer of Park Rapids MN; his former son-in-law, Jay Grotrian of Jamestown ND; four grandchildren, Hailey Lovgren, Reis Grotrian, Tyler and Grace Officer; one sister, Lynn (Russ) Rings of Bismarck ND; two brothers, Bob Lovgren and special friend, Cydnie Conley, of Faribault MN and Bill Lovgren and special friend, Elizabeth Miller, of Bismarck ND; his cousin, Larry Tonander of Florida; and by numerous relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Betty Lovgren and by a special uncle and aunt, Bud and Jan Reynolds.
Cremation has taken place.
