On January 1, 2016, Dolores Merle Mallory Gilbertson, "Dee", went home to be with her Lord. She was born on July 12, 1929 to Merle May Rounds and Caleb A. Mallory in Madison Wisconsin. On March 23, 1941, she accepted Jesus as her personal Savior. Dee attended high school in Wessington Springs, S.D., Boscobel, WI and Madison WI, and graduated from Neillsville High School in 1947. She was employed as a telephone operator in Boscobel and Neillsville WI.
On November 26, 1948, Dee married LeRoy "Pete" Gilbertson in the Methodist church in Sparta, WI. They lived in Black River Falls, WI, where she again worked as a telephone operator for nine years. They also resided in Janesville, WI, Anoka, MN, and Moorhead, MN. From 1963-1966, Dee and Pete owned and operated "Pete's A&W Drive-in" in Hixton, WI. In 1978, they moved to Lake Ida, which is located in the Cormorant Lake area.
Dee was actively involved in the Cormorant Lutheran Church. She was the chairperson for the Rachel Circle, Vice President of the ALCW, Secretary for the Council, Vice President of the Church Council, Church Treasurer and was the first secretary hired for her church. From 1981-1990, she was a bookkeeper and secretary for Simison Marine. In 1989, she and Pete built and operated Lake Ida Storage. Retiring in 1994, they sold their lake home and business and moved to Fergus Falls, MN. Bethlehem Lutheran Church became their church home in 1999.
Dee is survived by her husband, LeRoy, daughter, Debra Jean Zolin, and two sons, Dean Louis Gilbertson, (Annie), and David LeRoy Gilbertson (Joni). She has been blessed with the following: four grandchildren- Hayley Dee Hansen (Matthew), Chelsy Ann Greek, Trevor Allan Zolin, and Wyatt David Gilbertson, a step- grandson -Josh Smith, two great grandchildren- Rylee Grace Zolin-Greek, Soren Matthew Hansen, and two step- great grandchildren- Brooklyn Rayne and Coy Jonathan Smith. Others include her brother-in-law, Dwight Olver (The Village- Florida), two sisters-in-law - Betty Gilbertson (Clear Lake, Texas) and Rose McDowell, (Reedsburg, WI), and many well-loved nieces and nephews.
Dee is preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Clyde and Raymond McDowell, Donald Mallory, and her sister, Marlene Olver. She leaves behind many other family and friends, who were so special to her. We will always carry the memory of her many gifts in our hearts.
