Donald Henry Haseman, age 77, of Alexandria, died October 24, 2012 at his home surrounded by his loved ones.
Don was born on January 22, 1935 to Henry and Marie (Boehnke) Haseman in Fulda, Minnesota. He was baptized and confirmed at St Paul's Lutheran Church. He attended St. Paul's Lutheran School through eighth grade and graduated from Fulda High School in 1952. Following graduation, Don helped his father farm and worked at an auto repair shop.
Don married Shirley Wiener, the love of his life in 1955. They moved to Hoffman, MN to begin farming. This move led them to the Brandon and Evansville area where they established "The Farm" and raised their family. After raising their family, they moved to Red Rock Lake and then to Alexandria. Don continued to actively farm within days of his passing. Between his love for family and farming, Don found time to be active in his church and community; he served on the Urness Township Board, Evansville Sportsman Club, and the Faith Church Board. Don was awarded Outstanding Young Farmer for Douglas County and also Soil Water Conservation District Farmer of the Year. Don and Shirley spent many winters in Arizona and summers traveling in their motor home to Alaska and to the east coast to visit family. The numerous camping trips Don took his family on will be remembered as very special times. Don had a passion for farming and enjoying time with his family. In his leisure, Don enjoyed his time with Shirley traveling, camping, playing cards and gathering with family and friends. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Don will be remembered for his quiet and steadfast loving devotion to God and family. His active faith in God carried him through the trials and triumphs of his life, sustaining and renewing him.
Don is survived by his loving wife, Shirley; daughter, Debra Johnson(Brent) of Evansville, MN ; daughter, Torre Elmer-Barthel(James) of Dellwood, MN; son, Craig Haseman(Julie) of Evansville, MN ; daughter, Lisa Ostlund of St. Paul, MN, and daughter, Angela Knott(Richard) of Skillman, NJ ; grandchildren: Donald LeSage (Kassandra), Jana Anderson (Michael), Leah Johnson, Lane Elmer (Ashley), Carrie Kalvik (Jesse), Katie Barthel, Anna Woods (Dana), Ryan Haseman (Renee), John Haseman, Melissa Haseman, Leslie Blue (Scott), Clay Ostlund (Kristin), Aaron Ostlund, Lauren Ostlund, Conor Knott, and Quinn Knott; great-grandchildren: Paige, Kylie, Emma, Jai, Leo, Logan, Brock, Joelle, Samantha, and Brooklyn; brother, Leo Haseman (Carole) and sister Audrey Hjelle (Tom); sister-in-law, Sharon Hunger(Bob) and brother-in-law, David Wiener(Nancy), and many special nieces, nephews, and cousins. Don was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Leigh Ann and parents, Henry and Marie Haseman.
Per Don's wish, his body was donated to the University of Minnesota for Medical Research through the Anatomy Bequest Program.
A funeral service will be held at Alexandria Covenant Church in Alexandria, MN on Saturday, November 3, 2012 at 3 pm.
Visitation will be held one hour before the service and also fellowship following the service.
Memorials preferred to the American Cancer Society or Hospice of Douglas County.
