Doris Freeman

Doris May Kathleen Freeman was born May 1, 1932 in International Falls, MN to Earl and Ethel (Misner) Clauson and passed away on Thursday, September 3, 2015 in Battle Lake, MN surrounded by her loving family.

Doris May graduated from Falls High School in International Falls, MN in 1950 and graduated from Concordia College, Moorhead, MN in 1954. She taught school in Battle Lake from 1954 to 1956. During this time, she met and married Donald Freeman on June 30, 1956. Doris May moved with Don to several locations during his brief service in the military. Following Don's military service they returned home to Battle Lake, MN where Doris May would make their home and raise a family. She, again, taught school where while her children attended high school. Following her retirement from teaching Doris May worked at the Battle Lake Review newspaper as well as the Battle Lake nursing home.

Doris May loved reading, crossword puzzles, a lively game of head and foot canasta with her family, and catching up with friends and family on Facebook. Most importantly was spending time with her children and grandchildren. Her famous comment was "If I knew grandchildren were going to be this much fun, I'd have had that first!"

Doris May was preceded in death by her husband, Don; parents Earl and Ethel Clauson, and sisters Victoria, Shirley, and an infant sister.

She is lovingly survived by her sister Ruby (Tom) Radford, children; David (Mary) Freeman; Susan Nelson; Debra (Bill) Bartholomay; Jon (Belinda) Freeman and Cynthia (Bryan) Kramer.

Grandchildren: Daniel and Alyssa Freeman, Amy and Aaron Brehmer, Mason Freeman; Samuel and Monika Nelson, James Nelson (Claire Hobbs); KyLee and Kalli Bartholomay; Emilee and Zane Freeman, Benjamin Kramer, Hannah and Dillon Langerud and one great granddaughter, Sierra Nelson as well as many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to First Lutheran Church.

Funeral Services: 3 PM, Sunday, September 6 at First Lutheran Church, Battle Lake

Visitation: one hour prior to the service at the church

Cemetery: Silent Vale Cemetery, Maine, MN
