Doris (Herrman) Oliver, 88, of Fergus Falls, passed away Thursday, September 12, 2024, at The Pioneer Cottages.
A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, September 19, 2024, at 2:00pm at the Hilltop Celebration Church in Fergus Falls. A visitation will be held one hour prior.
Doris Elfriede (Herrman) Oliver was born December 1, 1935, in Stuttgart, Germany to Uta Herrman. Doris grew up and went to school in Waldhausen, Germany.
Doris married Dwight Oliver on November 9, 1962, in Schabisch Gmund, Germany. While Dwight was in the Army, they lived in various places. In 1964, Doris and Dwight moved back to the United States, and settled in Lawton, Oklahoma. After Dwight’s retirement, the couple moved to Ohio. In 1988, they moved to Fergus Falls, Minnesota, and in 1989, they purchased their home south of town. Doris started her working career at a restaurant in Ohio, then she began working at K-Mart. When they moved to Fergus Falls, she would continue to work at K-Mart, and retire from there. Doris was a friendly, well-known voice over the intercom. She also enjoyed tending to her flowers in her garden, reading, and was a member of The Church of the Nazarene in Fergus Falls.
Doris is survived by her daughter Sonja (Preston) Billings of Fergus Falls, Minnesota; nine grandchildren: Shaun Davis, Scott Davis, Jackie (Adam) Formo, Chad Davis, Brian (Tina) Billings, Jacob (Desiree) Billings, Isaac Billings, Anike (Marcus) Zahnow, and Tariq Billings; and 15 great-grandchildren. Her brothers-in-law: Boyd (Sandy) Oliver of Centerville, Ohio, Lloyd (Sue) Oliver of West Liberty, Ohio, and Dean Oliver of West Mansfield, Ohio.
Doris is preceded in death by her husband Dwight Oliver; grandson, Aaron Billings; mother, Uta Herrman; foster parents, Karl and Paulina Riedel; brother, Manfred Herrman; and two foster brothers: Karl Riedel Jr. and Gerhard Riedel.
Doris will be greatly missed.
Arrangements were made by Glende-Nilson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls.
