Duane Haugen, 90, of Fergus Falls, passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls.
Duane Orren Haugen was born on January 18, 1934, in Pelican Rapids, Minnesota the son of Martin & Alma (Aarness) Haugen. He was baptized at North Immanuel Lutheran Church & confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church of Pelican Rapids. Duane graduated from Pelican Rapids High School in 1952.
In 1957 he was a radio operator and forward observer, P.F.C. in the U.S. Army Airborne Paratrooper Division making 8 jumps. He was honorably discharged in 1958.
On October 25, 1958, he married Helen M. Thom, the love of his life, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church with Reverend Beck officiating. The couple are the parents of three children, Larry, Leslie and Lisa.
Duane was employed at Bunny Bread as a Semi-Driver, Fergus Falls, Ellerbee Architects in St. Paul for many years, Service Food Market as Produce Manager for 10 years and with Southwest Retirement, in Sun City Mesa, Arizona and Garland, Texas as a Supervisor of Maintenance until his retirement in 1998. After his retirement he worked for Anytime Transport out of Fargo
He is a member of Messiah Lutheran Free Church of rural Underwood, and currently was attending Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls.
He enjoyed music, reading, football, walking and spending the winter seasons in Arizona for many years with his wife, Helen. Duane was a Cub Scout Leader and also enjoyed playing guitar and singing for dances, locally and around Mesa, Arizona as well.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Martin and Alma; three brothers, Manley, Jerome and Glanis; four brothers-in-law, Elmer Boese, Selvin Sorum, Orlando Follingstad and Willie Thom; two sisters, Delores Sorum and Darlene Bischoff; sisters-in-law, Martha Haugen, Valdine Haugen and Tilda Haugen.
He is survived by his wife, Helen of Fergus Falls; two sons, Larry (Patty) of Fergus Falls and Leslie (Trisha) of Bull Valley, Illinois; a daughter, Lisa (Fred) DuPont of Oak Grove, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Tyler (Charity), Michael (Amanda), Derek (Alisha) Haugen; Jeffrey (Taylor) Haugen, Ashley (Brett) Kahl; Joseph and Melanie DuPont; eight great grandchildren, Cora and Parker, Brayden and Krystanna, Amelia and Elliot Haugen, Luke and Miles Kahl; a sister, Janet Follingstad of the Twin Cities; three sisters-in-law, Arlene Boese of Sauk Rapids; Verona Thom of Underwood, and Henrietta (Jerome) Klinnert of Underwood; brother-in-law Dale Bischoff of the Twin Cities. along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
Memorial Service: 11:00 AM, Monday, April 29, 2024, at the Glende-Nilson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls, with a visitation one hour prior to the service.

Interment: Knollwood Memorial Gardens, Fergus Falls, MN
