E. Norman Nelson, age 97, of Fergus Falls, died Thursday, June 23, 2011 at Pioneer Care Center in Fergus Falls.
Edgar Norman Nelson was born January 1, 1914 in Borup, Minnesota the son of Ed and Pearl (Colcord) Nelson. He was baptized and raised in the Presbyterian Church in Clitherall. He attended the Clitherall School and then graduated from the Battle Lake High School.
Norman and Helen Nelson were married on October 6, 1940 at Helena�(TM)s parentsa�(TM) home in Wadena, Minnesota. After their marriage they lived in rural Clitherall by West Battle Lake, then in Tomah, Wisconsin, Madison, South Dakota and St. Paul, Minnesota before moving to Fergus Falls in 1956. Norman in his youth worked many various jobs but the job he loved the most was running a sawmill for several years for his Dada�(TM)s business, the E.N. Nelson Lumber Co. in Clitherall. He was employed with the Swift Packing in St. Paul, then the National Tea Packing in Fergus Falls, and his final work career was with the Minn-Dak Sugar Plant in Wahpeton, retiring at the age of 80. In the 1930a�(TM)s he served in the C.C. Camps, he had been the Clerk of Court for the Village of Clitherall and was a member of the Eagles Club in Fergus Falls. Norman and Helen enjoyed traveling, especially going west with their camper.
Norman is survived by two daughters, Kathleen (Duane) Erickson of Bagley and Peggy Walz, Fergus Falls; one son, Philip (Denise) Nelson of Fergus Falls; 12 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and by numerous relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Pearl Nelson; wife, Helen on January 30, 1997; son, David Nelson; grandson, Tyler Erickson; great-great granddaughter, April; two brothers, Arthur and Harold; and by two sisters, Leila King and LuLu Coury.
Funeral Service: 11 am Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at the Celebration Center at Pioneer Care Center in Fergus Falls
Visitation: Monday from 5 to 7 pm with a Prayer Service at 7 pm at the Glende-Nilson Funeral Home.
