Edith Gnahn

Edith (Edie) Catherine Gnahn , 84 of Fergus Falls passed away peacefully at Lake Region Hospital March 3, 2012 surrounded by family after a year long courageous fight with cancer.

Edie was born February 7, 1928 to Otto and Anna (Preiner) Fuhrman in Pierz, MN. She married Vernon Gnahn April 20, 1948 at St. John's Catholic Church in Lastrup MN. Seven children were born to this union.

The family lived in Crosby MN until 1966 when they moved to Fergus Falls. Edie worked for 18 years with the State of MN Driver Exam Office in Fergus Falls as a Clerk, retiring in 1990.

Edie was an active member of the VFW Post #612 Auxiliary for many years. She had many friends there and was well known and loved cooking for the Friday night dinners/events, as well as marching in parades with the Drill Team. After retiring she enjoyed traveling with family and friends – which many times seemed to include a stop at a casino. Edie was an avid MN Twins fan. She also loved any time she could spend with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Edie is survived by her husband, Vernon, seven children, Kathy (Sam) Wolvert of Sartell MN, Tom (Mary) Gnahn of Fargo ND, Pat Wallrich of Fergus Falls, Jim (Linda) Gnahn of Fergus Falls, Janet (Steve) Buchholz of Cambridge MN, Charlie (Chris) Gnahn of Hewitt MN, Mark Gnahn of Sartell MN. 19 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and sisters, Beatrice Gehrke of Hillsboro ND, Lila Wickham of Pillager, Elie (Dick) O'Donnell of S. St. Paul, Lois (David) Plante of Fort Ripley and sister-in-law Myrt Gnahn of Omaha NE.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Ervin, Chuck and Joe, sisters Bern, Dorine and Tresa, brother-in-law Clifford Gnahn, and son-in-law Dean Wallrich.

Funeral Mass: 11 am Friday, March 9, 2012 at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Fergus Falls

Visitation: Thursday from 4 to 7pm with a Prayer Service at 6:30 pm at the Glende-Nilson Funeral Home and one hour prior to the Mass.

Clergy: Fr. Greg Paffel and Sister Joyce Leibly

Interment: St. Otto's Catholic Cemetery
