Edith Olson, a long-time member of the Nidaros community, at age 103 died Thursday, October 19, 2023. She was living in Henning at the Our Home Your Home Assisted Living.  Edith lived her entire life in Otter Tail County primarily in Nidaros Township.
 
Edith Caroline Olson was born on February 27, 1920, at home in Leaf Mountain Township.  She was the daughter of William and Christine (Salomonson) Mittag.  Edith was baptized and confirmed at Leaf Mountain Church and attended Rural School District #283, both in Leaf Mountain Township. 
 
Edith married Benhardt Olson of Clitherall in Sisseton, South Dakota, on December 22, 1938.  Following their marriage they returned to his family farm — the Martin & Ella Olson Homestead where they farmed for 34 years on their dairy farm.  They moved to their Culvik lake farm for a short time then moved back to the homestead. In addition to farming, she was a homemaker, and mother to three children. She also enjoyed gardening, canning, crocheting, and quilting. 
 
Following Bennie’s death in 1972 Edith continued farming the homestead. 
In addition to working and managing the farm, she fed the family and hired men.
Edith was a longtime member of Nidaros Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aid where she especially enjoyed participating in the Nidaros Fall Suppers. Edith lived at the Olson Family Farm until the last several years of her life.  
 
Edith is survived by her daughter, Carolyn (Dave) Henriksen of Maple Grove; four grandchildren, Karla (Marty Wallace) Olson of Alexandria, Marlin Olson of Clitherall, Ryan (Melissa) Henriksen of Big Lake and Dr. Christine (Kevin Hinter) Henriksen, of Winnipeg; five great-grandchildren, Jacob Wallace, Clyde and Pierce Henriksen and Maxwell and Gavin Hinter. She leaves numerous relatives and friends. 
 
Edith was preceded in death by her husband, Benhardt; two sons, Billy and Floyd B.  Olson; sister, Alice Sandahl; and by two brothers, Walter and Arthur Mittag.   
 
 
Funeral service will be held Saturday, October 28 at Nidaros Lutheran Church, 18844 Nidaros Church Drive in rural Clitherall.  Visitation is at 10 am, service will begin at 11 am.  The service will be led by Rev Ryan Stout of Nidaros Lutheran.
