Edna R. Paetow, 96, formerly of Erdahl and Elbow Lake, died Monday, July 8, 2013 at the Barrett Care Center, Barrett, MN.
Edna Rosella Paetow was born November 30, 1916 in Barrett, MN to Marion and Mathilda (Endreson) Anderson. She attended country school. At about 12 years of age, she worked as a house keeper and babysitter for an Aunt and Uncle in exchange for room and board. Edna married Walter Karl Paetow on July 5, 1936. The couple lived on the Erdahl family farm until 1976 and moved to Elbow Lake.
Edna, while raising 10 children, was an extraordinary cook and baker, quilter, seamstress and gardener. She was an avid reader and crossword puzzle solver. While farming, Edna worked at the Ashby City Restaurant, Elbow Lake Hospital, cleaned houses in Elbow Lake and washed laundry for Barrett teachers. Edna was a member of Erdahl Lutheran Church and served as Sunday School Teacher and Ladies Aide member. She and Walter were Erdahl Cemetery custodians. In addition, she was active in Homemaker's and Women's Study clubs and Elbow Lake Senior Citizen Center. Edna and two others stared the Elbow Lake Food Shelf. She received her high school GED in 1983 at the age of 67. She walked in the Elbow Lake 5K Flekkefest race and won 1st place in the Senior Citizen division.
Edna is survived by her children and their spouses, Dorothy and Dave Nelson of The Villages, FL, daughter-in-law, Patricia Paetow of Jasper, GA, David and Loretta Paetow of Fergus Falls, Judy and Tim Langlie of Cottage Grove, MN, Jerry and Elizabeth Paetow of Montrose, MN, Carl and Sheila Paetow of Little Falls, MN, Kathleen and David Brehmer of Sauk Rapids, MN, Leland Paetow of Elbow Lake, MN, and Penny Bolton of Denham Springs, LA, brother and sister-in-law, Orrin and Irene Anderson of Portland, OR, sister-in-law, Betty Anderson of Le Sueur, MN, brother-in-law, Louis Anderson of Tamarack, MN, sister-in-law, Bobbie Anderson of Green Valley, AZ; 29 grandchildren; 57 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; numerous relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Walter of 53 years, 5 brothers, 2 sisters, 6 sisters-in-law, 4 brothers-in-law, and 3 children, Walter Jr., Stanley and Donald.
Funeral Services: 2 PM Saturday, July 13, 2013 at Peace Lutheran Church, Ashby, Minnesota
