Eileen Behl, 84, of rural Battle Lake, died Thursday, January 21, 2016, at Sanford Health in Fargo.
Eileen Madonna Behl was born on September 14, 1931 in East Grand Forks, Minnesota, the daughter of James and Agnes (Cariveau) Bushee. She was baptized and confirmed in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic High School in 1949, in East Grand Forks.
Eileen and George E. Behl were married on April 17, 1950, in Sacred Heart Catholic Church. After their marriage, they lived in Grand Forks. In 1971, they moved to Maynard, MN and in 1974 the family moved to St. Cloud. In 1993, Eileen and George moved to their retirement home on Otter Tail Lake. She was a homemaker raising her family, was employed as a cook with St. Peter and Paul Elementary School in St. Cloud for ten years, and then after moving to Battle Lake, she worked for a short time with the Henning Nursing Home. Eileen was an avid reader, liked crossword puzzles, knitting, baking bread, rocking babies, and going to the casino with her sisters. She enjoyed time at their lake place with family and especially her grandchildren. Eileen did a lot of volunteering, had been a Cub Scout Den Mother, was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, had taught religion class in St. Cloud and she loved going to Mass.
She is survived by her children, Gregory (Lauren) Behl of St. Louis Park, Michelen "Mickie" (Al) Alfredson of Battle Lake, Joelle (Chuck Cooper) Behl of Clitherall, Ronald (Michele) Behl of Brooklyn Park, Mary (David) Hanson of Ottertail, Anne (Charlie) Terwey of Battle Lake, Sara (Monty) Luhning of Ottertail, Joni (Donavon) Luhning of Battle Lake, George (Cindy) Behl of St. Cloud, Dennis (Lisa) Behl of Fargo, and Dean (Melissa) Behl of Waite Park; one son-in-law, John "J.R." Rankins of Battle Lake; forty-one grandchildren, Rachel, Christine, Jenni, Abby, Michelle, Miranda, Maia, Macie, Amber, Andi, Shawn, Michael, Tracy, Jill, Mandi, Alicia, Ashly, Lynsey, Sadie, Isabelle, Octavia, Cassie, Karly, Brooke, Madison, Ed, George, Josh, Tony, Greg, Tim, Shawn, Will, Zach, Jared, Drew, Mike, Devin, Carson, Braiden, Levi, and Ryan; thirty six great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; two brothers, Dennis Bushee of Desert Hot Springs, CA and Dean (Michelle) Bushee of Bismarck, ND; two sisters, Shirley Behl of Fergus Falls and Katie (Jim) Thimjon of Wahpeton, ND; and by numerous relatives and friends.
Eileen was preceded in death by her husband, George Behl on August 16, 2012; parents, Jim and Agnes Bushee; two daughters, Amy Theresa Behl and Marcie Rankins; two sisters, Phyillis Mclaren and Gloria Hess; brother, Ron Bushee; three grandsons, Jesse Hanson, Gabriel Rasmusson and George Behl; and by one great-grandson, Sutton Knutsinger.
Funeral Mass: 11:00 AM, Tuesday, January 26, 2016, at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Battle Lake
Visitation: Monday from 5 to 8 PM, with a Prayer Service at 7 PM at Our Lady of the Lake Church and one hour prior to the mass on Tuesday
