Eivor Ann-Britt Jedlund was born on March 30

Her parents were named Nilsen and died when she was in her teens.
As a young woman she was active in theatre, gymnastics and loved to skate.
In 1940 at the age of 16 she entered the Swedish Army Medical Corps summer nurses training program and worked both in a ward and a Red Cross Mobile Field Hospital.
Upon graduation from high school in 1942 she continued on to earn her Professional Nursing Certification from schools in
Lulea
and
Stockholm
and entered the Swedish Army.
She attained the rank of Second Lieutenant and served from January 1944 to May of 1945 at a Red Cross Field Hospital.
From January of 1946 through April of 1948 Eivor worked as an Air Hostess for Swedish Air Lines.
There she met Russell Jedlund who was a dashing young pilot for SAS following his service in the RAF Ferry Command during WWII.
Russell and Eivor were married March 5

1949 in
Lulea
Sweden
.
Russell was from Elbow Lake Minnesota and she followed Russell to a new home on a farm just northwest of Ashby
Minnesota
.
In Ashby, she became a farm wife cooking for threshing crews on a two burner hot plate, helping with the cattle and working to earn her US Citizenship and her nursing certification as an LPN, both of which she accomplished.
She worked at both the Pelican Lake Nursing home and the
Grant
County
Hospital
where she served as the purchasing agent from 1970 to 1986.
During that time she was also a member of the Grant County Welfare board and involved in many civic projects in Ashby. She received the Roger Odell Memorial Award in 1986 for contributions made the elderly citizens of Ashby and helping to bring long term health care to rural
Minnesota
.
She retired in 1986. She had a great love for cats and dogs, especially a Samoyed named Buck.
She liked to travel and returned to
Sweden
several times to visit family.
She also enjoyed Vegas, but that is another story and she never told you all of that story.
She had style with a tenacity of spirit and a direct way of talking.
You always knew where Eivor stood.
You might disagree, but she could still be your friend.
Eivor Jedlund, 86 died Thursday, June 10, 2010 at the Broen Memorial Home.
She was preceded in death by her husband Russell.
She is survived by sisters-in-law; Edith (Carl) Knudson, Bonnie Jedlund, Gail Jedlund; nephews and nieces; Steve (Susie) Jedlund, Kim (Jack) Toporek, Rick (
Nancy
) Jedlund, Anita (Patrick) Murray, Mark Knudson and Terry (Roger) Wood.
