Elaine Englund, 82, of Evansville, died Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at the Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls.
She was born in North Dakota on August 16, 1932 to William and Grace (Alvstad) Quernemoen. She grew up in Elbow Lake and graduated from Elbow Lake High School. On December 25, 1950, she was united in marriage to Merlin Englund in Elbow Lake during a snowstorm. To this union, three children were born: Keith, Larry and Diann. Elaine worked as a nurse's aide for 35 years at Crestview Manor which is now the Evansville Care Campus. She and Merlin lived most of their married lives in the Evansville area. Merlin passed away on July 2, 2002.
Elaine enjoyed many fun times with Merlin – trips to Las Vegas, snowmobiling trips, canoe and camping trips. She also enjoyed baking, cooking, canning and entertaining friends and family. She loved working with her friends at Crestview Manor. Dancing, traveling, going to the casino, playing bingo, cards and dice games and going for rides around the beautiful countryside were also favorite pastimes. Elaine was known for playing tricks and pranks on people every chance she could. Her biggest love was her children and grandchildren and spending time with them.
Elaine is survived by her three children: Keith (Bonnie) Englund of Ashby, Larry (Linda) Englund of Brandon and Diann (Dean) Kapphahn of Elbow Lake; 14 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; two brothers: Dwaine (Kallie) Quernemoen of Hoffman and Dennis (Janis) Quernemoen of Waterford, WI; one sister, Joyce Boettger of Fergus Falls; her step-mother, Nancy Waugh of Barrett and several aunts, an uncle, nieces, nephews and in-laws. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sisters, LouAnn Fritz and Gail Wendt and two brothers, Marvin and Harlan Quernemoen.
