Elaine Everts

Elaine Everts, 94, died on Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Battle Lake, Minnesota.

The youngest child of Ole Peter and Clara Aune Ness, Elaine Sylvia was born at the family farm on the west shore of Lake Blanche on September 21, 1920. She was baptized and confirmed at Skibvedt Lutheran Church and graduated from Battle Lake High School in 1937. After receiving a teaching certificate from Moorhead Teachers College, she taught in Star Lake Township and in Appleton and Underwood.

Elaine was married to Thomas Everts on June 15, 1943, and they celebrated 66 years of marriage before his death in 2009. She was an active member of Trinity and First Lutheran churches, taught Spring Kindergarten for several years, and served as chair of the Battle Lake School Board. She was a member of the Women's Progressive Club and volunteered at the local Food Shelf as well as caring for several siblings in their later years.

Surviving are her children: Kathryn Rickers, married to Ron, of Lancaster, Pennsylvania; John Everts, married to Andrea (Malmstrom); and Peter Everts, married to Kristi (Haverberg), all of Battle Lake. She is also survived by grandchildren: Emily Rickers, Austin, Texas; Thomas Rickers, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirites; Rezin Everts; Ambrose Everts and his fiancée Jessica Anderson; Julia Everts DeMars and her husband Joe, all of Battle Lake; Jackson Everts and his wife Betsy (Hawes) of Hopkins, Minnesota, and Molly Johnston and her husband Robbie of St Paul. In addition are eight nieces, including Joyce Sodergren and Grace Stoebe of Battle Lake, and three nephews.

She was preceded in death by three nephews and her siblings: Hilda Ludford, Lillian Herdman, John Ness, Myrtle Thorstad, Hilmer Ness, Orville Ness, Helen Morrau, and Lucille Knoke.

Memorial Service: 1:00 PM Sunday, July 19, 2015 at First Lutheran Church, 505 Holdt Street, Battle Lake
