Elaine Sydow, 71 of Blaine formerly of Ottertail City area died Friday, February 20, 2015 at the Crestview Lutheran Home in Columbia Heights, Minnesota.
Elaine Louise Sydow was born on July 22, 1943 in Fergus Falls, Minnesota the daughter of Herben and Ruth (Thompson) Sumstad. She attended the Fergus Falls Public School.
Elaine and Roger Sydow were married on October 5, 1963 in Sisseton, South Dakota. After their marriage they lived in the Minneapolis and the Spring Lake Park areas. Then in 1975, they purchased Sandy Point Resort on West Leaf Lake of rural Henning, then in the winter of 1977, they purchased a grocery store in Ottertail calling it Elaine's Market. In 1982, they purchased a home by Otter Tail Lake when Elaine was employed with Jerry's Village Inn in Ottertail. In the mid- eighties, they returned to the Coon Rapids-Blaine area where Elaine worked various temporary jobs, managed a Tom Thumb Store, then was with the EM Corporation in New Brighton until her retirement. Elaine enjoyed bingo, ceramics, camping, puzzles, fishing, was an avid reader and she loved to go to the casinos. She also enjoyed her family and especially her grandkids.
She is survived by two daughters, Sherry (Jim) Wallenberg of Clitherall and Michelle (Mitch Weaver) Sydow of Anoka; four grandchildren, Aric and Kyle Fosse, Jessica Sydow and Samantha Meir; one great-granddaughter, Hayden Oakgrove; three brothers, Don (Shirley) Sumstad of Bemidji, David (Trudy) Sumstad of Wallkill, NY and Steven (Regina) Sumstad of Andover; two sisters, Geneva (Lowell) Drechsel of Erhard and Elizabeth Nelson of Coon Rapids; and by numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Elaine was preceded in death by her husband, Roger; parents, Herben and Ruth Sumstad; brother, Chester Sumstad and sister, Diane Meder.
Celebration of Life: 2:00 pm, Saturday, February 28, 2015 at the First Lutheran Church in Battle Lake.
Visitation: one hour prior to the service.
