Elaine S. Wahlin, 96, of Ashby, died Friday, December 28, 2018, at her home.
Elaine was born on April 11, 1922 in Minneapolis, MN, the seventh of nine children born to George and Viola Marcy. She graduated from Edison High School in Minneapolis. After receiving her education, she moved to Washington, D.C., where she worked as a typist for a year and a half, before returning to Minnesota.
On October 9, 1943, Elaine married Glenn V. Wahlin in Minneapolis, and they were blessed with five children. The family lived in Moundsview, where Glenn worked for the Burlington Northern Railroad and Elaine raised their family. In 1976, they moved to Bemidji, where they lived until Glenn retired in 1985.
In 1995, Elaine and Glenn moved to Bullhead City, Arizona, where they lived until Glenn’s death in 1998, at which time Elaine returned to Ashby, where she has since resided.
Elaine loved reading, sewing, knitting, Brazilian embroidery, and watching old movies—especially westerns. She especially enjoyed cooking and baking, and always brought something freshly baked wherever she went. Elaine spent many hours at the Senior Center playing cards, cooking and baking as well.
She is survived by four children, Patricia Short of Inver Grove Heights, MN, Joseph (Kay) Wahlin of Evansville, Sari Wahlin of Watersmeet, Michigan, and Marci (Stewart) Brown of Melby; 18 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn in 1998; a son, George Wahlin; and eight siblings.
