Elsie Jeffers, 91, of rural Vining died Saturday, September 17, 2016 at the Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria, Minnesota.
Elsie Ellen Jeffers was born on November 18, 1924 in Duluth, MN, the daughter of August and Tyne (Finnila) Antilla. She was baptized in the First United Methodist Church and attended the Cromwell Public School through the eighth grade. Elsie's dad died when she was eleven years old and she worked various farm jobs.
On October 24, 1944, Elsie married Raymond Jeffers in Cloquet, MN. After their marriage, they lived by Carlton then later moved to Barnum. She was a farm wife, enjoying helping her husband on their dairy farm. Elsie was employed with 3-M in St. Paul, Diamond Match in Cloquet, then worked in housekeeping with Mercy Hospital in Moose Lake, starting in 1967, until her retirement in 2009. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and the First United Methodist Church. Elsie enjoyed farming and the outdoors, traveling, gardening, was an avid reader and loved people. Elsie also enjoyed berry picking and picked gallons of strawberries for people. Raymond died in November of 1971, and in December of 2014, she moved to rural Vining, MN to live with her daughter, Kathleen.
Elsie is survived by one daughter, Kathleen (Daryl) Baardsen of Vining and by one son, Paul (Verna Jean) Jeffers of Moose Lake; eight grandchildren: Brenda, Robert, Jessica, Clinton, Cole, Caleb, Jade and Nathaniel; sixteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sister, Irene (Don) Johnson of Anoka; brother, Arthur (Carole) Hill of Cromwell and by numerous relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Raymond; grandson, Nicholas; three brothers: Nestor and Arvo Antilla and Richard Robbens and by three sisters: Helmi Antilla, Lillian Bond and Elma Tuuri.
Celebration of Life Service: 12 to 4 PM, Saturday, October 8 at Barnum Senior Center, 3794 Main St, Barnum, MN
