Elvina Schroeder

Elvina Schroeder, 77, of Evansville died Saturday, April 2, 2011, at Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria.

Elvina Mae Schroeder was born February 18, 1934, in Ashby, Minnesota to Melvin and Gladys (Bergen) Balgaard. She was baptized and confirmed at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Evansville, attended rural School District 35 at Evansville and graduated from Evansville High School in 1952.

On June 20, 1952, Elvina married William A. Schroeder at the church parsonage in Evansville. They lived on a farm in Evansville Township. After her children were grown, she worked in Evansville and then for Medallion Kitchens in Fergus Falls and Chippewa Farms near Evansville. In 1989, the couple moved into Evansville.

Elvina was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, the Evansville Senior Center and Retired Senior Volunteer Program. She enjoyed sewing, flowers, reading and especially her grandchildren and family.

She is survived by her husband, William; a daughter, Cynthia (Charles) Drake of Honolulu, Hawaii; sons, Donald Schroeder of Evansville and Marlin (Catherine) Schroeder of Winstead, MN; seven grandchildren, Holly, Adam, Evan, Craig, Kimberly, Katelin and Amber; seven great-grandchildren, Gracey, Jasemine, Khelden, Annabelle, Gavin, Kaylee and Emily; a sister, Beverly (Robert) Bonkoski of Alexandria, MN; brothers, Marvin (Audrey) Balgaard of Waverly, MN, LuVerne (Cynthia) Balgaard of Burnsville, MN, Roger (Helene) Balgaard of Rochester, MN, Truman Balgaard of Alexandria, MN, Dennis (Joanne) Balgaard of Olivia, MN and Ronald (Juanita) Balgaard of Alexandria, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Leslie W. Schroeder on March 29, 1997.

Visitation: Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home in Evansville and will resume one hour prior to the service at the church

Service: 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 6th at Faith Lutheran Church, Evansville

Burial: Mound Grove Cemetery, Evansville
