Eunice E. Evavold, 78, of Alexandria, died on Friday, August 21, 2015, at Bethany Homes in Alexandria, Minnesota.
Eunice Evangeline Raatz was born on October 24, 1936, the daughter of Adrian and Helen (Fritz) Raatz, at the family home in Elbow Lake. She attended School District 43 in Grant County until 3rd grade. Eunice attended Evansville public School from grade 4 through 12, graduating from High School in 1954. While in High School, Eunice worked part time at Lanes Café and also took over grades 1-8 as a Teachers Aid when the teachers were absent.
Following graduation she worked in St. Paul at a Drive-In, Montgomery Wards, and at several banks as a bookkeeper. She later moved to Fergus Falls and worked at Fergus Falls Dairy as an accountant and at Morris High school as a Secretary to the Superintendent. Eunice opened up a consignment shop in Wadena prior to moving back to St. Paul. She worked for the V.A. sending checks to service men who were going to school under the G.I. Bill. Eunice transferred to the Federal Police where she worked many years as an office manager, buying supplies, sending out bids for materials from cars to pencils. She retired in December, 1995 after receiving numerous awards. She was also the President of the Hiawatha Park Board for a number of years. After Eunice retired from the Federal Police at Ft. Snelling, she and Norman moved to Alexandria where they owned and operated a Consignment Store for 11 years. Eunice was the mother of six children, of these Kevin lives in Maple Grove and Kim in Fridley.
Eunice stayed busy with her yard sales and baking cookies and rolls for residents at Nursing Homes and others. She was known to be always working on some sort of project.
Eunice is survived by her husband, Norman of Alexandria; children Kevin of Maple Grove and Kim Eisenbeisz of Fridley; three granddaughters and two great grandchildren; a brother, Robert Raatz and sister, Yvonne Olson along with numerous friends.
Eunice was preceded in death by her parents, Adrian and Helen Raatz; four sons and one grandson. Blessed be the memory of Eunice.
Service: 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 26, 2015, at Faith Lutheran Church in Evansville.
Visitation: Tuesday, August 25, 2015, from 4-7, with a 6:30 p.m. prayer service at the Glende-Nilson Funeral Home in Evansville and continuing one hour prior to the service at the church.
Interment: 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 27, 2015 at the Erdahl Cemetery in Erdahl, MN.
