, daughter of Peder M. and Beda (Swenson) Farden.
Eunice attended Rural District #34 and graduated from
Battle
Lake
High School
in 1942.
She then attended the
University
of
Minnesota
where she earned her Licensed Vocational Nursing certificate.
On March 1, 1944 Eunice joined the Women’s Army Corp in support of the WWII effort.
She served stateside as a medical corpsman at military hospitals in
Tonapah
,
NV
and Hamilton Air Force Base, CA.
She was discharged form the Women’s Army Corp in 1945 and moved to
Thief
River
Falls
where she resumed her nursing career.
Eunice and Dale Otto Jensen were married June 16, 1946 at
Grue
Lutheran
Church
in
Eagle
Lake
Township
.
They resided in
Thief
River
Falls
until, as she always stated, “we got tired of shoveling snow!”
They moved to sunny
California
where she lived for over 45 years.
Eunice worked at
Sequoia
Hospital
in
Redwood City
,
CA
as the Supervisor of Central Supply.
She was and active member of Delta Chi Sigma women’s philanthropic sorority serving as an officer on various occasions.
She was also and avid member of the California Sons of Norway Vigeland #155 Lodge enjoying the many celebrations associated with her Scandinavian heritage.
In August 2000, Eunice returned to
Battle
Lake
to live closer to her many relatives and childhood friends.
She was an active member of
Eagle
Lake
Lutheran
Church
enjoying its many activities, especially the quilting group.
Eunice belonged to the Leif Erickson Sons of Norway Lodge.
She was a volunteer at the Good Samaritan Center where she later became a resident.
One of Eunice’s favorite activities was Bingo which she enjoyed both at the
Good
Samaritan
Center
and the
Battle
Lake
Senior
Center
.
Eunice is survived by her daughter, Sonia (Roger) Bertsch of Spokane, WA; two grand-daughters, Alissa (Stephen) Johnson,
Colfax
,
WA
and Stacy Bertsch of
Spokane
,
WA
; one niece, Cindy (Steve) Bailey,
Battle
Lake
; one great-nephew, Matt (Kristy) Bailey,
Fargo
,
ND
and numerous relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale on February 14, 1987, her brother Byron Peter Farden, on May 15, 2009 and her parents Peder and Beda Farden.
Memorials are preferred in her memory to Grue Lutheran Cemetery Fund or Eagle Lake Lutheran Church Scholarship Fund.
