Evelyn Saunders

July 8, 1925 — December 22, 2011

Evelyn Thurnau Laske Saunders, 86, celebrated Christmas with the Lord and loved ones after passing away 12/22/2011. Evey was raised by her very dear Aunt Clara and Uncle Fred Thurnau following the death of her parents, Agnes & Samuel Thurnau. She graduated from Fargo Central and from NDAC. She married the love of her life, Gene Laske, in 1948. Their family of 7 lived in Oakes, ND where Gene & Evey owned and operated Gene's Red Owl and Skogmo stores.

Gene passed away in1986. In 1991 Evey married her friend Jack Saunders; they lived in Battle Lake, MN. Jack passed away in 1996. In addition to Gene and Jack, Evey was preceded in death by daughter Marjorie and son David, grandson Michael, great-granddaughter Kaia, and brother Gerald. Evelyn is survived and missed by 4 children: Karen (Alan) Dirks, Doug Laske, Beth (Ross) Rubbelke, and Jacki (Mike) Qualio; 12 grandchildren: Brannon, Tyler, Tanner, Aaron, Cullen, Jessica, Kylie, Christopher, Jordan, Natalie, Nicholas, and Shane; and 6 great-grandchildren: Chase, Ashlyn, Quinlan, Mackenzie, Simon, and Joshua, sister Shirley Anderson, sisters & brothers-in-law Irene and Jerry Schons, Cal & Mary Laske, and Carole Thurnau. She is also survived by Jack's children Charles (Marge) Saunders, Jay Saunders, and Jill Jackson as well as their children and grandchildren.

Evelyn dearly loved, and was loved, by her family and friends in the many places that she lived including Fargo, Leonard, Oakes, and Bismarck, ND, Battle Lake and Ottertail Lake, MN, and Mesa, AZ. She loved and worshipped the Lord and will continue to do so for eternity. We will celebrate her life this summer at the Ottertail Methodist Church; details to follow.
