Flavian A. Schecker, 83, of Evansville, MN, died on Tuesday, April 5, 2016, at the Evansville Care Center in Evansville.
Flavian Alice was born on January 28, 1933, on her grandparent's farm in Leaf Mountain Township to Millie (Amelia) Poltiske, daughter of John and Martha (Gluba) Poltiske. She was raised by her grandparents and went to country school until 8th grade. Later on she was employed at Dunvilla Lodge near Fergus Falls.
In June of 1950, she attended the wedding of her uncle Tony. There she met Floyd Schecker, brother of the bride, Marion. Six months later on January 8, 1951, they were married. From this Union came six children, Lloyd, Mike, Jim, Carol, Don and Paul. After several moves they settled in Evansville, in the "biggest" house in town. It was several years before they acquired the whole house. Flavian raised her children and eventually took a job at Crestview Manor where she worked for over 30 years, being let go due to cutbacks. During those years she enjoyed heading out with her husband, Floyd on Craft Shows and later going with friends on various garden trips. From there she was into Bingo with her friend Arlene Ohren.
Flavian's love of flowers was evident in her yard and the care she took of the plants at Faith Lutheran Church, when Floyd passed and she ever needed help; Faith was her haven. She loved a lot of things, her grandchildren, quilting at the church, crocheting and flowers. Flavian also enjoyed watching sports and going to We-Fest in her later years with her mother and step-sister.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Millie; husband, Floyd; son, Mike and grandson, Paul Douglas.
She is survived by her children, Lloyd Schecker, Carol (Kenny) Behrens, Don (Julie) Schecker all of Evansville, Jim Schecker of Kensington and Paul (Melanie) Schecker of Starbuck, MN; half-sister, Betty of Detroit Lakes, MN and brother-in-law, Gene of San Francisco, CA along with numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
