Florence Hanneman

December 5, 1920 — June 23, 2012

Florence Hanneman, 91 of Fergus Falls died Saturday, June 23, 2012 at her home under the care of her family and Lakeland Hospice.

Florence Alvina Hanneman was born December 5, 1920 in Carlisle Township to Herman F. and Dorothea (Meyer) Schmidt. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church, Fergus Falls. Florence attended country school District #96, rural Fergus Falls through eighth grade. Florence was united in marriage to Harold (Pat) Hanneman on March 1, 1942. She spent the majority of her life in Carlisle Township working with her husband on their farm until retiring in 1976 and moving to East Rivers Bend Road, Fergus Falls until her death. It was at her home that she assisted in the rearing of her five grandchildren and great-granddaughter, MaCorra. Florence's face would light up when a little child would come into a room and she would take a cranky child in her arms and gently put them to sleep. She was active in 4-H in her teen years and because of her bread baking skills, won several trips to the Minnesota State Fair. Florence raised and preserved the produce from a large garden. If you stopped in, she would always be able to throw something together to eat. Having family near was dear to her heart and attending the school activities of her grandchildren. She also liked fishing through the ice, bird watching and feeding the birds, enjoying her surroundings and making sure all of her grandkids knew how to swim. When she watched TV, it was shows such as Wheel of Fortune, The Golden Girls, or family shows like The Walton's. Florence listened to the radio on a daily basis and never rejected playing a game of Scrabble. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church from her birth until her marriage and then became a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Elizabeth. In March of 2009 she became a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Fergus Falls.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Pat on August 26, 1978; her parents, Herman and Dorothea Schmidt; granddaughter, Andrea Waasdorp; sister, Laura Fanselau; brothers, Harold and Arnold Schmidt; several brothers and sisters-in-law and one nephew.

Florence is survived by her children, Arlis (Warren) McGinnis of Nevis, MN, Warren Hanneman of Fergus Falls and Susan (Allen Jr.) Waasdorp of Fergus Falls; grandchildren, Michelle (Scott) Ellingson, Michael Hanneman, Patrick Hanneman, Jason Waasdorp and Jessica (Nicholas) Fosberg; great-grandchildren, MaCorra Hanneman, Austin Randklev, Kaylee Waasdorp and Riley Waasdorp; sisters-in-law, Gladys Kenyon of Fergus Falls, Marlas Schmidt of Fergus Falls and Helen Hanneman of Barnesville; numerous nieces and nephews and former daughter-in-law Irene Gothier.
