Gary Lee Boen

Gary Lee Boen, age 66, of Fergus Falls, passed away on Wednesday, December 25, 2024, at his residence. Born on August 11, 1958 to Elroy Clifford and Joanne Marie (Kiehne) Boen in Fergus Falls, MN, Gary’s life was marked by a deep connection to his roots and a profound love for his family and friends.

Gary grew up on the family farm, where he learned the values of hard work and dedication. He attended District 1520 rural Country School before graduating from Fergus Falls High School in 1976. Following his education, he pursued various construction jobs before embarking on a successful career in telecommunications, culminating in his recent retirement from Arvig in 2021 after over 20 years of service. His talent for building and craftsmanship was renowned among those who knew him, and it brought joy to his life as well as to the lives of others.

Gary cherished the moments spent hunting and fishing in the great outdoors. He was particularly fond of watching football, a passion that brought him much pleasure. His love for animals was evident through his care for his chickens and his loyal companion, a dog named Amy. Gary was deeply connected to his faith and was is a member of Aurdal Lutheran Church.

Gary's memory will be forever cherished by his two daughters, Shelly and Kari Boen; his sister, Jane Olson (Karl); his brother, Michael Boen; and his four grandchildren, Ethan, Isaiah, Lexi, and Kya (Jed), along with two great-grandchildren, Aisley and Rylynn. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elroy and Joanne Boen; his son, Kristopher; and siblings, Rick, Diane, and Kathy Boen.

Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 4, 2025, at the Glende-Nilson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls, with a visitation one hour prior to the service.

Interment: Aurdal Lutheran Cemetery, Fergus Falls, MN
