George Hess, 75 of rural Underwood died Friday, June 12, 2015 at Midwest Home Health in Fergus Falls, Minnesota under the care of Lakeland Hospice.
George David Hess was born on February 11, 1940 in Carroll, Iowa the son of George J. and Mary (Bernhard) Hess. He was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic Church. George attended Wentworth Military Academy and then graduated from Kuemper High School in 1958.
George and Fay Schroeder were married on April 22, 1961 in Carroll, Iowa. After their marriage George was employed with Western Electric in Cedar Rapids, Iowa then transferred to Sioux City, Iowa. In 1967, they moved to Underwood, Minnesota where they lived a short time before building their present home on Pickerel Lake. He worked twenty-eight years with Park Region Telephone Co., retiring in 1995. George enjoyed fishing, hunting, cooking, woodworking, and his main passion being organic gardening and loved sharing his garden produce. He especially enjoyed time with his family, friends, grandchildren, and their time on Pickerel Lake. George was a member of St. James Catholic Church.
He is survived by three children, Marie (John) Keefe of Lindstrom, Steve (Kim) Hess of Port Orchard, WA. and Paul (Dawn) Hess of Underwood; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, John (Holly) Keefe, Johnny and Madelynn, Megan (Matt) Walsh, Jack, James and Alice, Thomas (Brianne) Keefe, Myrah, Charles and Owen, Daniel and Elizabeth Keefe, Steven Yesel, Ashlyn, Sarah and Katie Hess; sister, Judith (Paul) Wernimont of Woodbury; and by numerous relatives and friends. George was preceded in death by his parents, George and Mary Hess; wife, Fay Hess on May 22, 2015 and son, David Hess on January 28, 2010.
Funeral Mass: 1:00 pm, Saturday, June 20, 2015 at St. James Catholic Church of rural Underwood
Visitation: one hour prior to the service
