Gerald Kalenda, 68, of Clitherall, died Saturday, August 26, 2017, in his home.
Gerald Paul Kalenda was born on March 28, 1949, in Perham, Minnesota the son of Andrew and Vivian (Day) Kalenda. He was baptized and confirmed in St. Edward’s Catholic Church in Dent. Gerald attended the Perham, Dent and Richville schools and graduated from the Perham High School. He furthered his education for two years at Wahpeton Science School in upholstery.
Gerald and Lorraine Olson were married on March 1, 1966, in Sisseton, South Dakota. After their marriage, they lived in Amor Township, Battle Lake, Henning and in 1972, they moved to their home in Clitherall. Jerry was employed with the Battle Lake Locker Plant, he cut meat for Harold Pickle Meat Market and worked for Flom Grain and Feed both of Henning, Seelhammer Locker in Deer Creek, heavy equipment operator for Dieseth Specailty of Dalton and Park Construction in Minneapolis and then as a contractor for the Daily Journal for seventeen years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, doing volunteer medical driving and liked visiting with family and friends. He and his family have been members of the Rollag Steam Thresherman’s Reunion since 1987.
He is survived by his wife, Lorraine; two children, April (Brent) Thompson and Eugene Kalenda both of Fergus Falls; seven grandchildren, David (Brittany) Nelson, Monique Nelson, Travis (Hanna) Nelson, Savanah Johnson, Ashley Kalenda, Brandon (Jodee) Kalenda, and Zachary Kalenda; four great-grandchildren, Morgan and Megan Nelson, Silas Nelson, and Jackson Kalenda; and five sisters, Marcella Kalenda of Duluth, Judy (Al) Bennwitz of Alexandria, Mary Ann Ferguson of Phoeniz, AZ, Theresa Luoma of Alexandria and Kathy Dollie of Kentucky; three brothers, Bill (Lynette) Kalenda of Zimmerman, Kenny Kalenda of Clitherall and Ernie Dollie of Washington, DC; and by numerous relatives and friends.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Vivian Kalenda and by two brothers, Ed and Richard Kalenda.
Visitation: 5 - 7 PM Wednesday, September 6, 2017, at Glende-Nilson Funeral Home in Battle Lake, and one hour prior to services at the church.
Mass of Christian Burial: 2:00 PM Thursday, September 7, 2017, at St. Edward’s Catholic Church in Henning

Interment: Oak Grove Cemetery, Fergus Falls
