Geraldine (Jerry) Catherine Soland, 83 formerly of Ashby, MN died Thursday, July 8, 2010 at the Lakeland Hospice House in Fergus Falls, MN.
Jerry was born on August 2, 1926 in Fon du Lac, WI to Peter and Amber (Bonnell) Stokke. She graduated from Ashby High School in 1944. On March 21, 1953 she married Knute Soland Jr. and they made their home in Grant County where they farmed the family farm.
For nearly 25 years she worked at the Pelican Lake Nursing Home in Ashby until it closed in June 2008. She enjoyed making ‘goodies’ – lefsa, pies, suckers, candy, donuts and cookies - and giving it to family and friends. Jerry enjoyed traveling, playing Bingo & cards, quilting and going to concerts. Her favorite saying was
“If you have a chance to go anywhere, go, you never know when you won’t be able to.”
which she lived by. In January 2009 Jerry moved to the River View Apartments in Fergus Falls and especially enjoyed and looked forward to playing cards with her new friends there.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Knute Soland Jr. She is survived by her children, Paulette (Dennis) Bowman of Fergus Falls, Sonja (Burnell) Herman of Wendell, Knute P. Soland of Fergus Falls and Jody Soland of Eagan; 10 grandchildren, Brian (Alisha) Bowman, Jennifer (Aaron) Horwitz, Tonya (Trevor) Westrom, Blair (Crystal) Herman, Aaron Herman, Christopher (Darcy) Soland, Derek Soland, Katherine Soland, Melissa Kugler and Jill (Fredy) Kugler; 15 great grandchildren, Justin, Brody, Evan, Brock, Blake, Bryant, Benton, Brieanna, Ellie, Brandon, Breck, Carlie, McKeana, Jack and Gianna; a sister-in-law Anne Bue of Wickenburg, AZ; and numerous nieces and nephews.
