Gilbert Odegaard, 70 of rural Evansville died Monday, April 14, 2014 at the Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria.
Gilbert "Gil" Ray Odegaard was born July 14, 1943 to Olaf and Josephine (Elliot) Odegaard. He grew up in rural Dalton and received most of his education there, completing his schooling in Fergus Falls. In 1961, he joined the National Guard. In 1970, Gil purchased his farm south of Evansville. Gil was employed by Mendelson Egg Company in Elbow Lake. He also raised beef cattle and hogs on his farm. He was married and later divorced. In November of 1986, he was united in marriage to Joyce Norby at Faith Lutheran Church in Evansville. Gil also did carpentry work with his brother, Leonard.
Gil enjoyed hunting with his brothers, ice fishing with his father and doing anything outside. He had a passion for building birdhouses. Gil particularly enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church.
Gil is survived by his wife, Joyce; children, Carmen Odegaard (Duane Spielman) of Evansville, Conrad (Jennifer) Odegaard of Hoffman, Sheila (Jim) Panek of Elmdale, Anita (Tim) Lent of Brooten and Myron Norby (Brenda Lee) of Benson; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters, Ann (Roy) Nolte of Moorhead, Mary (Rodney) Moebius of Dalton, Darlene Langlie of Blaine, Sandy Odegaard of Fergus Falls; brothers, John (Joanne) Odegaard of Ramsey and Eddie ( Char) Odegaard of Florida, several relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Leonard, one sister, Adell Frovarp, and 2 brothers-in-law, Gaylord Frovarp and Gary Langlie.
Funeral Services: 2 pm, Friday, April 18, 2014, Faith Lutheran Church, Evansville
Visitation: 4-6 PM, Thursday, with a prayer service at 5:30 at Glende-Nilson Funeral Home, Evansville - and one hour prior to the service at the church
