Gilfred Moen, 85, of Perham, formerly of Park River, ND, died Thursday, December 13, 2012, at Perham Health.
Gilfred Duane Moen was born on December 3, 1927 in Edinburg, North Dakota, the son of Charlie and Anna (Nygard) Moen. He was baptized and confirmed in the Zion Lutheran Church in Union, ND. Gilfred attended Country School Tiber District #52, graduating from the Edinburg High School in 1945.
Gilfred and Pauline Moen were married on March 21, 1946 in Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Grafton, ND. He worked in farming and then started in the lumber business, being trained in Park River, ND, then managed yards in Forest River, ND for eleven years, Park River for nineteen years. He began employment with the Home Lumber Company in Stephen, MN, in sales, working with contractors. He transferred to St. Paul in 1984, retiring in 1991.
After retirement, they lived on Otter Tail Lake and wintered in Mesa, Arizona, where he was employed as a security guard. In 2010, Gilfred moved to the Perham Living Center. He enjoyed curling, golfing, fishing, playing cards, was an avid Minnesota Twins baseball and Minnesota Vikings fan. He had served on the Midway School Board in Forest River, the Fire Department in Park River, had served on church boards and presently was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church of Amor. Gilfred was a Shriner and a member of the Masons.
Gilfred is survived by a daughter, Marlys (Michael) Baumann of Otter Tail Lake, MN; son, Galyn (Wendy) Moen of Destin, Florida; four grandchildren: Michelle (Dr. Aaron) Wright of West Fargo, ND, Mark (Dr. Amy) Baumann of Edmond, Oklahoma, Todd (Roma) Moen of Mesa, AZ, Tracey (David) Kunze of Stevens Point, Wisconsin; and eight great-grandchildren.
GIlfred is preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Anna Moen; his wife, Pauline; and by two brothers, Arlin and Charles.
Visitation: 2:30 – 3:30 PM Thursday at the Perham Living Center and 5 – 7 PM, with a Prayer Service at 6:30 PM, at Zion Lutheran Church of Amor.
The celebration of his life will be at 11 AM Friday, December 21, 2012, at Zion Lutheran Church of Amor, with visitation continuing one hour prior to services.
